It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Satish Chander Kapur, beloved husband of Anu, father of Madhuri and Nakul, father-in-law to Murali and Rachael and grandfather to Maya, Rishi, Ravi, Priya and Anya. Satish, a retired school teacher, enjoyed a full and active life throughout his 85 years. He was an affectionate and sociable man with great charm and personality who left an impression on everyone he met. He will be sorely missed by all. Please join us as we celebrate his life by sharing memories and photos below.

From my earliest memory Satish uncle always celebrated life. His infectious smile lit up the room and a gathering. It was always a pleasure to be with him. His love for traditional Punjabi food and a particular partiality to the ‘Handi’ ‘Doli ki Roti’ and samosas invariably led to him regaling us with stories in history of Punjab and Multan. His love for history manifested in his writing. For us his memories are plentiful and every time fill us with warmth from his magnanimity and the love he bestowed on us. His will be sorely missed. I have known Satish for over 25 years and nearly the same period he was my father-in-law whom I affectionately called Dad. My own father, Nana, passed away 11 years ago and Dad took on the role of both fathers effortlessly. Dad’s persistence as a matchmaker resulted in Madhu and I getting married in November 1997 which has led to Maya and Rishi coming into this world. They have their Nana to thank for their existence. Over the last 25 years I understand that Dad was cross with me on just one occasion. This was when Madhu was in labour with Maya. Being the birthing partner, I had other things on my mind and failed to keep in contact with Dad during the labour process. As many of you know Dad can get quite anxious and worried which I learnt very quickly, so I made sure I was in regular contact with him when Madhu was in labour with Rishi. Prior to meeting Madhu, I was a pescatarian and drank very little. Dad tried to encourage me with a glass of red wine, G+T, or even a glass of beer and over the years I became more of a social drinker. However, I remained a pescatarian despite the wonderful and tempting aromas that emanated when he made his famous Lamb Bhuna. However, he always made sure that there was a fish option at mealtimes. Dad was supportive with my work, family life, interests and hobbies. However, I had to be very economical with the truth when I went on a scuba diving holiday with my friends as I became more aware of his over protection of his children’s welfare. Over the last quarter of a century, I have many fond memories of Dad spending time during Christmases, Diwalis, birthdays and other celebrations as well as going away for long weekends and even going on holidays. During that time, he has always been kind, thoughtful, caring, supportive and full of wisdom. It has been a pleasure to have known you, Dad, over the last 25 years and my life has been enriched as a result. I will miss you.

It is so sad that Kapur Sahib is not with us. We have so many fond memories of get togethers and holidays together. He was always full of vigour and humour! It was a pleasure to discuss politics with him and tease him. Very intelligent and affectionate. Our deepest condolences to Anu ji and family. May his soul attain peace in heaven. We will miss him. Uncle Satish filled any room with his wonderful personality. He had a beautiful, commanding voice and you could feel that the room was 'full' with his presence. I enjoyed chatting with him and reading his auto biography which was fascinating. Uncle was interested in all matters and discussed each subject with interest. He had lots of great opinions. Uncle Satish really enjoyed eating South Indian food and particularly loved Idli, Dosa and Sambar (hot and spicy preferably). Uncle will be greatly missed by us all.

Satish Uncleji was more of a friend, mentor and, fatherly figure than just an uncle. Each time I called or visited he would always lovingly say "nice to hear from you puttar" with a smile. We would talk about anything from: the education system, current affairs, politics, family history and his pride in Multani culture. He had a love for the simple pleasures such as the huka(pipe), whiskey, wine, coffee with a newspaper in the morning and bhuna lamb (something he would make, and take great pleasure in explaining the right technique of doing). I feel blessed that I had the fortune of spending time with Uncleji and had always looked forward to seeing and having a chat with him which I will dearly miss. But I will cherish the memories. You will be dearly missed.
