I am saddened to hear the news of the loss of Satish. I first got to know him as a fellow member of the City of Leicester Teachers’ Association (NUT) in the early 1980s. Not only was he a very committed trade unionist, but he was also a great companion in post-meeting sessions in the pub. I was privileged to help him resolve his long-running and highly principled battle with Leicestershire County Council. I appreciated his and Abu’s frequent attendance at my Burns Night events. He had a strong secular anti-racist perspective on events, and always had interesting views to share, which he was prepared to debate. His interesting life from the British Raj, through partition, to arrival in the UK and his teaching career in Leicestershire made him a very well informed and engaging conversationalist. He always seemed much younger than his years and although I was aware of his health problem he always seemed full of energy and on a mission to challenge injustice. I remember him with respect, fondness and happy memories. Love to Anu and the family.
