ADIEU - Dr. CHARLES O. IWUNOR (3 September 1954 – 1 August 2020) Dr Charles Chukwujindu Ofulue Iwunor, was a member of staff of the Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan. He was born on September 3, 1954. He hailed from Ibuzor, Delta State, Nigeria. Dr Iwunor obtained the Professional Diploma in Statistics in 1975. He then joined the Federal Office of Statistics, Nigeria as a Statistical Officer on 22 December, 1976 and subsequently seconded to the Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan. His appointment was confirmed on 7 February 1979 and from that date his servise was transferred to the University of Ibadan. He became a full statistician having passed the Chatered Institute of Statistician in 1976 which was equivalent to a B.Sc degree in any Nigerian University. With this qualification, he had M.Sc. statistics in 1975, Ph.D in Statistics in 1987 all from the University of Ibadan. He later proceeded to Jahawalal Nehru University, Trivandrum, India where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Population and Development Studies in 1989. He was converted to Lecturer II in 1987 and promoted to Lecturer I in 1990 and Senior Lecturer in 1993. Dr Iwunor’s research interest was in the areas of Demography, Economic and Official Statistics, Econometrics and Stochastic Processes. He was an active researcher and a prolific writer. He supervised Professional Diploma Projects (including mine); B.Sc projects; Postgraduate Diploma projects and M.sc dissertations in his lifetime. Dr. Charles Iwunor, you were and erudite scholar and a seasoned researcher worked very hard to attain the position you were before your demise. You imparted the lives of many people and you were appreciated for it going by the comments on Faculty of Science and Statistics ambassador’s whatsapp platform since your demise was announced. Although, you were an extrovert, but most often misunderstood, and whenever you noticed that, it is not difficult for you to say “my friend, I am sorry I am sorry”. You were so caring to students and you own children. When your children were yong, everyday, you buy bteard from UI bakery, boiled groundnuts, sweets and many things for your children. Our dear brother, teacher, supervisor, senior colleague, husband, father and grand father, we love you but God loves you more. Do rest in perfect peace in the bossom of the Lord. Good night. Adieu, my teacher. I can remember spending hours chatting with you wherever I pass through your house. A teacher and friend indeed. May your soul rest in perfect peace.

My wife and I were shocked by your sudden death, Dr. Charles Iwunor. What a sudden end for a rare academic genius whose academic record was outstanding. We pray for the family you left behind that God continue to strengthen and comfort them. Rest in peace dear Dr. Charles.

RIP Dr. Charles Isibor. May the strengthen the family you left behind and give them the grace to bear the pain of your exit. Though I didn't know you personally but I met your daughter in Kastina who has a heart of gold which makes me conclude that you have raised a generation that will continue your good works. Well done Sir.
