Memorial

Tobias Onyeka-Patrick

xx xx, xxxx - xx xx, xxxx

To convey the type of person Tobias was is a feat no one can achieve. The words kind, respectful, supportive, jovial, passionate, talented, all come to mind, he was a multifaceted young man with a lot of promise. How can one say goodbye to a person they have shared and plan to live many more memories with? Tobias was a strong personality that one cannot help but be attracted to. He was always there to discuss trivial and serious issues, find humour in a morbid situation and always a smiling face in a crowd filled with strangers. Although his time with us was short, his memory will last forever, his strength and courage are examples of what we all should strive to reach. Tobias is survived by his Mum, Dad, his brothers: Edward, Michael and Carl, his grandmother, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and his friends across the globe whose hearts he has imprinted. We love you Tobias but God loves you more, Rest in peace Tobias till we meet to part no more.

Condolences

I am a total stranger. I just heard of you today when Pastor Ifeanyi posted made a remembrance post about you. When I was done reading the post, I started crying. I hope God comforts everyone who had the privilege of experiencing you. Because, I didn’t know you but I feel pain. So I cannot begin to fathom what your loved ones are going through. Keep resting in the bosom of our lord. Amen.

Tobias, I met you soon after you were born and remember you being such a good looking baby. A bundle of joy to behold. with such beautiful eyes. After that I saw you grow up into a calm, kind and gentle young lad. Your parents loved you dearly, you were their precious first born son and loving brother to your siblings. I feel the pain of your passing as they do, a charming and considerate young man gone too soon, but God knows best. He will keep you safe from the pain of this world, rest in perfect peace. You are in good hands in the bosom of our Lord. We will miss your magical smile forever, Adieu till we meet again.

My Tobias, Waking up everyday has been a struggle ever since your passing. The truth is I’m still in shock. I’m being forced to learn a lesson I’ve never been taught whilst my heart and my world are broken. I learnt from you and it was a blessing - your whole life was and so will your legacy. I wish I could be at your service but I’m finding the understanding that your presence is within me and I am truly grateful for that. Thank you for being a star. I know you’re still shining even as you’re resting. There are memories shared that will go beyond anyone’s understanding of our special bond and relationship. You were always such a gentleman, such a role model. Your positivity, your warmth and faith were truly inspiring. That charming spirit, your smile, from the way you walked to the way you talked - your stammer, your voice. These qualities all paint a very beautiful and endearing soul. An angel and a keeper, a watcher too. You deserved to live, to be healthy, to flourish here with us. Your loss has been painful, a harsh lesson. At the least my world is dimmed without your light. With that, I know and believe you will continue to shine in my heart and in my dreams. You will always be in that special place as I miss you day by day but I will also celebrate you in all your glory for as long as I live knowing how very special you were to me and what it meant for you to be a part of my genesis. I am so proud of you, to have known and to have loved you, I always was and always will be. Your loving sister & cousin, Tega

There is no simplification of the effect your presence has had in my life. Though through tears, in an effort to write a fitting tribute, I find years of love, loyalty, and wisdom replaying in my mind's eye. I believe it’s only fair that every single person remembers you at your most radiant. I promise I forever will. My brother, you gave me my confidence. There’s no over exaggeration of how much I looked up to you. In my formative years, I‘d always try and understand how you were always so calm. A man of extreme beauty and talent, matured so quickly and held such a firm grip on your priorities. You only ever reassured, never doubted. You never left me. You’ll never leave me. Your humility is something I would try and emulate for years to come. I don’t remember one brag or boast, from someone with heaps to do so with. If it wasn’t your fashion I was trying to copy, it was your apparent nonchalance. Even that, I would learn was only directed at matters you knew shouldn’t trouble us. You never wanted us to stress. You never let drama reach the forefront of our minds. All I remember is laughter and play. I remember following you to parties, and watching in awe as several people would greet you on entry. You made a name for yourself as a figure of compassion and accessibility - everyone could see that. You truly could be everywhere, but you were never hungry for attention. I hope that it is forever apparent all the qualities I learnt from you. You let the fun be fun, and when it came time for family, nothing would separate you. I thank God for the example you have set your brothers. You were the first with an afro, the first with dreads, the first to shave your head. The first to wear your clothes baggy, the first to wear traditional as casual, the first to publicly embrace your talents. You are the blueprint. You taught me that the physical gifts we have been given are only a pale reflection of the extent of our power. You showed me that there is always more beneath the surface, and watching you fight a war just to keep your loved ones in a better place, has set the tone for all of our futures. You walked with me around the hospital as if everything was okay. And I see what you were trying to show me now. Everything will always be okay. With the love of God, and the love of family and friends, you live on.

To my dear brother Tobias, knowing you has been one of the greatest privileges anyone could ask for. I’d imagined you, Chuka and myself together again after your recovery which we’d all been praying for. So naturally I broke down into tears once I heard that you were no longer with us. However I know you’d want us to stay strong for you and your family, after all you were and are the strongest guy I’ve ever known. You deserve the rest you’re getting right now after fighting so hard. I have nothing but respect for you my dear brother. Even with my faith tested this year, mainly due to your state, you never lost yours and I find that so inspirational. You stayed strong and had hope so that we could do the exact same. A true leader and rolemodel for your brothers, including me. I promise to be there for them always and forever. You had so much ahead of you. With your music, your ambition, you were inevitably destined for greatness. I vow to do the best I can, no matter what career path I choose, and I swear I shall make you proud. You were the best friend anyone could ever ask for. Loved and adored by everyone, you were always family and friends first, no matter what. Your loyalty was unbreakable. I will miss you dearly. With these remarkable qualities you possess, I now tell myself that we will all be together again one day. I remember the good times, I’ll cry at first and then I smile remembering how you were such an amazing person. I’ve even cried writing this but then here I am, smiling. You are still with us, so long as our memories are strong. My dear brother you were and are an angel. Farewell Tobias, til the next time we meet. Love you now and forever.
