Reed McGregor

It is with the deepest sadness that we share the news that our beautiful daughter and sister Reed lost her battle with the disease of addiction on Wednesday January 6, 2021. She leaves behind her loving and devoted mother Gail, her loving brother Mark and younger sister Evan. She also leaves a Grandmother she adored (Ene McGregor) and many treasured aunts, uncles and cousins. We trust that she is with her father Douglas McGregor who passed away in 2014. She fought really hard to stay sober and she did everything she could to try and beat this awful disease. This news may be shocking for some of you, as she was very good at keeping her addiction and her pain private. Reed was so much more than her disease. Reed was a bright light who brought joy and comfort to so many, wherever she went. She always had time to be there and support her friends and family. She was brilliant, she was fierce and she was loyal. She was about to finish her double degree in Business and Marketing from Ryerson University. She had big plans for her life and future. She wanted to make a difference in the world. Reed had a spark in her eye and a smile that could light up a room. She had a fantastic sense of humour and loved looking at and sharing memes, I mean really loved memes. We are all better for having had her in our lives and are all heartbroken that she isn’t here with us anymore. Reed was passionate about social justice and particularly emotional about the many wrongfully convicted people in prison. She was always reading and watching documentaries on Netflix and would get so angry at how this could happen. She spoke often about some day volunteering with the Innocence Project. If you would like to make a donation in Reed’s memory; you may make a donation to Innocence Canada. Covid has made this loss so much more difficult as friends and family are unable to gather. We will be having a private family memorial this week, and friends of Reed have organized a zoom memorial Saturday January 23, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Once travel restrictions are lifted we will plan a celebration of life to honour Reed.
