Philip Shields

Philip Shields was a devoted husband to his wife Lynette Shields for 46 years and father of 2 sons Levon and Lawrence Shields. He was very charismatic, well respected in his community and by his friends. He was born in Portsmouth, England and them moved with his parents to South Africa when he was a child. He became an apprentice jokey in Cape Town in his teens and landed up winning his first race at Durbanville on 22 June 1967 at the age of 18. He was an advid golfer who hit a hole in one on 6 May 1989 and had a handicap of 12 before he decided to retire from competitions and just played for the fun of it. When he retired as a regional manager he continued to play golf and having drinks and Braais. He will always and forever be loved by his family and all his friends.
