Peter Gillespie

Peter was born in Truro, Cornwall on February 1st, 1962, fourth child of six to Tony and Rosemary Gillespie, he is survived by his wife Merci, four brothers Simon, Mark, Johnny, Jubes, and his sister Karen. In 1969 the family moved to Newport-on-Tay in Fife, on the south bank of the River Tay and Peter went to school at Newport Primary and later Madras College in St Andrews. He graduated with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh and started his career with Lucas Engineering in Kent. A broken leg, incurred playing cricket afforded him the spare time to become highly proficient in IT skills, which he put to use initially at Lucas, eventually moving to Fidelity International where, apart from a brief interlude as Managing Director of Webscript Designs, he spent the remainder of his career, eventually progressing to Head of Information Security and Technology Risk

Pete was a thoughtful and principled person. I got the opportunity to work as part of his Risk team for a short time and it was a privilege to do so and learn from him. He was passionate about what he did and he was considerate of everyone around him. It is very sad that Pete has passed away. My prayers and thoughts are with Merci and all his family and friends. So sad - it’s been a privilege to say that I’ve known Pete for over 20 years as both a work colleague and friend. Pete had a unique quality of making people feel comfortable around him and always there to support you. We have lost a true leader, mentor and just a great man.

So very sad to hear of Pete's passing. Thinking of you Merci and family. I have great memories of Pete. Early morning cups of tea and chats about fishing. I never did get the inside story on trout tickling. Pete always said to me that he didn't need a rod and line to catch them. An early Fidelity fancy dress party at the high Rocks Inn - looked everywhere but I can't find the pic of Pete dressed as Fu ManChu. Beating the drum at dragon boat races on Bewl water where Pete totally lost the rhythm through laughing at some of the costumes in the boat - caveman - Sumo wrestler - and others. The brilliant fame productions he joined in with. Joining in with the tribute to smudger for lasting 30 years at FIL. For me the most enduring memory though is Pete will always be the true gentleman, he always found the time to chat over a cuppa, enjoy a laugh and put the world to rights. He was always ready to offer that helping hand. An all round lovely bloke. RIP PG.
