xx xx, xxxx - xx xx, xxxx

A caring husband, loving father, grand father, peace seeker, tireless worker, sponsor of dreams, confidante to many and above all, a person whose mantra and typical greeting was Alafia - Peace. He will forever remain in our love. The memories we cherish and shared will stand as a guiding light in our broken but thankful hearts. The sky is brighter because Heaven celebrates the gain of a worthy soldier and ambassador. Rest on Daddy as you champion our aspirations and relationships...

Diran Abidakun

Good night to a very loving and caring Uncle, who will take his time to ask about the welfare of all the members of the family irrespective of location. Sleep well Sir, may your good soul rest in perfect peace and may the good Lord continue to keep all that you have left behind.

IDOWU ODUBAYO

Daddy, Uncle, Broda – you were one in a million dad! You were a provider, protector and a professor of love of family. You came, you loved, you provided, and you professed your love of God and family to all and sundry. You are the reason my family came to America, we could always count on your prayers, your love, and support. Your gentle voice were always sure and soothing. I found another big brother in you. Out of your dedication to the welfare and continued quest for family excellence, you submitted my wife’s name in the 1995 VISA lottery; and the rest is history. We met for the first time on August 22, 1995. Our conversation of that day, and the several advises and instructions you gave me are still fresh in my mind and have been pivotal to many decisions that I made, which led to great achievements for me and my family in this country. You opened your home and heart to me and took me as a brother when you said,” Idee, O kii se ana mi, aburo mi ni e”. This statement led to several conversations that we had and insight you provided on several issues. I hope and pray that all that you wished for all of us will be fulfilled even in your absence. Your quest for peace was monumental, wisdom, analogies, and ability to provide context and clarity on issues without bias was phenomenon. Broda, I’m glad I made your birthday last March. I already miss your Sunday calls, and for the first time I missed your birthday call on my birthday in November. Daddy New York, I miss you, awon omo yin, JD, Doctor, Bunmi & Bamidele miss you Yes, I am Idowu, omo Ijebu erunwon, Oko Fola: yes, Fola, the daughter of Sister Ilesha that married Agege! You preached peace, you lived in peace and I pray that you rest in peace. Daddy, Good Night. Idowu Odubayo

MRS FOLA ODUBAYO

My Tribute Dear broda John, uncle, daddy, daddy in New York, my most admired one, since you advertised for the Glaxo company, you became my “Super Star.” I have known you for as long as I can remember myself. You loved me dearly, loved my husband like your own brother, and our children like the best “thing” that happened to you. You thought me how to turn my worries into prayers, you were always there when I needed prayers, available to tell me family stories, and advice for life, or work problems. You were the kindest and most generous person I knew. Many beautiful first things happened in my life because of you: You gave me my first “paper money”, I went on my longest first trip to the then Western State with you to Ijan, to witness a first marriage ceremony when you got married. I experienced the beauty and joy of a baby I could call my sister, when you had your first child, and first time going on the “danfo” bus whenever I came to visit you in Aguda. I experienced my first visit to America after you added my name to the Visa lottery that brought my family and I to America. You never stopped giving until I recently refused to take any more. Your Sunday calls were so accurate, I could set my clock with them. You met my friends once, and they promptly became “family”. Those who never met you knew I had an uncle in New York who cared deeply for me. Daddy, as I now fondly call you, you have not died, you have simply gone to rest. You will forever live in my memory. Your legacy for the love for peace, family, and trust in God will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you. You will be dearly missed! From Mrs. Fola odubayo

*Oga Olu Abidakun: A Possessor of Godly Attributes. * "Erinmuye" (Laughing boy) that is what he fondly called me always and at anytime as he was the one that gave me the name. I grew up knowing him with one attribute: LOVE. This he had demonstrated to everyone that had encounter with him. Whatever your attitude was to him, he will respond with and in LOVE, this attribute is traceable to God of Mercy, Oga Olu possessed this and never get angry with anyone even at the highest level of provocation. He was also soft spoken and a disciplinarian another attribute of God in  chastising those He love. Oga Olu chastised people out of love, and for correction and growth. Highly devoted to a course he believed in and with passion. A devoted Christian family man as he possessed the attributes of Christ Jesus who laid his life for us all peacefully and with prayers even under crucifixion and at point of dead. With all the attributes accredited him and with audacity he was able to enter into our family to take my sister away as a wife peacefully without any stress and challenges usually posed by we boys junior to the wife. He will be remembered for good and excellent deeds and will be greatly missed forever. Brother Olu, be active in God presence and enjoy His presence with those soronous music play by the Angels. Akolade and Ranti Okunola

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family on the passing away of daddy Abidakun. I (Akolade) had the opportunity to meet daddy Abidakun in June of 2017 when we paid mummy and him a visit. The visit to their home was a memorable one for me because we had some fun times with them; we enjoyed some good food prepared by mummy and while waiting for the food, daddy was engaging me with words of wisdom, and we were switching from one topic to the other: American/Nigerian /Politics/ Career prospects / and many more which I found very refreshing after such a long drive. Throughout our encounter he was showing me some real love and caring, the hospitality gave me a sense of belonging to the family and since then my family and I have been keeping this experience alive as we never missed catching up on occasions to discuss matters arising and ask for each other’s wellbeing The first time I (Ranti) met daddy was back in 1996, I’ve known him to be loving, caring, thoughtful and when you call him over the phone he typically begins with prayer, then words of advice and end with “Alafia ni fun yin o! ". I am so glad I knew him, I believe that he is now resting peacefully with God, he would be missed. We were saddened to hear of the death of our beloved Daddy which happened last year. He was a loving and caring man, and we know he would choose to remain here if he ever had to decide but God knows the best. We love you but God loves you more, May your gentle soul rest in the perfect peace of God. We pray that the grace of God will abide with your family as they go through this tough time Goodbye! Daddy Abidakun
