Nana Adwoa Agyekum

Dear GIS Community It grieves me greatly to share the news of the passing of one of our beloved GIS students – Nana Adwoa Agyekum. The news is shocking and has left us all deeply distraught. Many of us spoke with her last week, chatted with her online; she was even discussing university choices with the School Counselors. That was Nana Adwoa; only in Form 4 but planning how dynamic her application was going to be in 4 years time! Nana Adwoa was active on the sports field, confident on the school stage (she was going to be Rizzo in our adaptation of Grease!), brilliant in the classroom (she was a maths prize winner!). She was respectful, responsible and a class act. What a realization that Nana Adwoa was one of those students about whom we could say without a doubt exemplified the GIS Attributes…and therefore what a loss: To her classmates, her teachers, and staff who interacted with her and children in the primary school she volunteered to read to and mentor. Although many students have already heard, I am now able to formally share the news with the community after receiving her parent’s permission this morning. Our hearts go out to them and our prayers encircle them at this most difficult time. We cannot even begin to imagine the depth of sorrow they must be in and all we can say in our Twi dialect is ‘Sh3din’…be comforted. May she rest in perfect peace. - Dr. Ashun.

My deepest condolences to her family and friends. Adwoa was my closet friend always tried to help me when I needed it. She made me smile when ever I was sad, dropped me off at class , we went to e canteen together . Nana Adwoa's spirit, her energy, her love of life and her amazing talents have truly left her mark on every person she met. She was kind loving and energetic she is always helping people. She was a very vibrant girl and participated in everything from sports to the musical she was always so full of life and always singing with her God given voice . The last memory I had with Nana Adwoa was when we were called back to school to sing for the teachers we sung I WAS HERE by Beyoncé and Adwoa you were really here. At some point I was really jealous of your voice and I prayed to God to give me a voice like yours. Adowa I miss you so much . Joyful , pretty , a star, my singing and dancing partner everything is gone, Like a piece of me is gone . Tears still fall down as I sit and think of you .We all miss you .Let her enjoy the rest of her life in a better place. RIP Nana Adwoa Agyekum (2005-2020)

Oh what a shock! I can't even begin to imagine the grief. A stranger as I am, I feel the devastation of losing such a brilliant and lovely soul. May her parents, family, school and friends be comforted in these trying times. Condolences to the whole world for missing the opportunity of having her input in life. My deepest condolences to her Family. She was so kind to me and every time at musical when she was done she will always walk up to me and start talking to me randomly about my Academics and anything that comes to her mind.Even when I was in the junior school she always used to see her afterschool looking for her sister so I would help her and we will always end up in the canteen eating waffles and sharing a drink.
