Mrs Liz Flannery

Mrs Flannery was a well known and well loved member of the teaching team at Westgate Academy. She has been part of our Westgate family since 2005 and was a driving force behind the PTA, organising summer fayres and school discos. Mrs Flannery had lived with chronic illness throughout her life and was an exceptionally brave woman who is an inspiration to us all. She leaves behind her husband and son. Her death has left a big hole in all our lives and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Our son, Kyle, remembers Mrs Flannery very fondly as a very kind and caring R.E. teacher in Year 4. He said he will miss her greatly. Our condolences to the family from the Geddert-Pages.

We have known Mrs Flannery since 2005 when Eddie was in Year 5 at Westgate, and our school association continued until Alexandra left in 2017. Mrs Flannery really was the warmest, most approachable person, but we didn't realise just how selfless and genuinely caring she was until Freddie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2010, when he was in Year 4. We hope she knew how much her support and advice carried us through those first bewildering weeks and months, and how we loved to catch up with her long after Freddie had left Westgate, be it at PTA meetings, walking our dog in our shared neighbourhood or waiting in Clinic 7. Mrs Flannery often struggled with her health but, no matter what, she always sparkled; a source of light and energy. A real inspiration. Sending our love to Mr Flannery and little Rhys - we're all the richer for having known her. Sarah, Peter, Edward, Freddie and Alexandra Wright.

I met Mrs Flannery when my son started at Westgate, he too has Type 1. She was so supportive to both myself and my son encouraging him to take care of himself and checking he was ok. She was always smiling and asked after him when ever I saw her. Such a lovely, kind lady who will be missed by so many. I will be forever grateful to her for being so kind to us xx

I still cannot believe the devastating news. I worked with Liz at Westgate for a couple of years, she was truly a kind, lovely lady who always cared for others. Herself and her family faced so many hardships but she continued to put others first and kept a smile on her face. All of my love and thoughts go out to Liz, her family and friends - who I know will all agree with what a wonderful lady she was. You will be so so missed. ❤️

We will remember Mrs Flannery for the gentle, inspiring and approachable R.E. teacher she was to our daughter. We always knew Mrs Flannery genuinely cared and wanted to make a difference in the lives of the pupils. We are thankful for her life and wonderful legacy which remains in the children she has taught.

Liz you were such a lovely caring person, I've known you about 19 years and often went out drinking together as Paul and my James were good friends too.you being a member of Westgate teaching staff was amazing and knew you'd always speak to my girls whilst at the school.you called me over once and said you had to put holly on a red because she laughed out loud when Mr stock was playing the trumpet but we tried together not to laugh.Ruby said she only saw you few weeks back and you stopped and said hello to her.
