Dad was an amazing person not only to his family but his friends too. The army was his life and he was liked and respected by so many. He was a gentle giant to all who knew him and had an infectious smile that could light up a room. Whenever you needed him he was always there. He will be missed so much so if you would like to leave a comment or a story of how you remember Major Flackett, JF, Big John or just John we would really love to hear it. Thank you

I have known JF since 1972,during our time serving together I've had the privilege of serving alongside him,also under his command and he rarely lost that huge smile or showed his displeasure. You will be greatly missed old friend and your memory will live on with us all.

John took over from my father as SPSI C Company Burton on Trent. As a young man who had just taken the MOD stores job, was also in the TA, he helped me in those early days. When I was crap he would let me know, when I did well he would praise me. I'm so sorry to all for your loss, he helped me so much in my early years..... Bless ya John, RIP Sir

In 1973 we were in Canada and was travelling by coach from Alberta to Calgary, our coach got a puncture and the driver said he had no jack to lift the coach for a tyre change.John just took charge, sent us to get some logs and had us position them under the wheel arches, a few of us hung on the logs and the coach lifted up. Wheel changed and we were on our way,John was very clever and mechanical minded, as well as being a true gentleman. God bless you John

When in Gib, we had a Mess and Dockers games night down at their place. My Dad was over so I took him along. A couple of beers with John and he came up with how he had made a fair bit of dosh on the side when on leave. He pressed my Dad for his occupation who just told him 'something in the Civil Service', pressing further my Dad told him he was a Tax Inspector. Exit John who said he was fetching the drinks. Didnt see him again that night for some reason. Must have been quite a que at the bar
