Lydia McConkey

I have happy memories of times as family in Max and Lydia's Priory Park home as their family was growing up. Aunt Lydia was "always there" doing what a good mother does - and always welcoming.

Much love to you all. We were so pleased to be able to attend the service for Auntie Lydia. We have many happy memories from childhood through the tapes and letters sent from NZ to Belfast and then to spend Christmas at your place and have Uncle Max push Kezia in her pram down Oxford St in London. Many stories of wonderful times together. She was a welcoming, loving Auntie and we are privileged to be part of the clan. CXXXX

I first met Mrs McConkey about 30 years ago when I started to teach with Sharon. She always welcomed me into her home with a broad smile from her favourite high chair. I always remember that she could quote many hymns by heart and her love of music was evident. I can’t honestly think of a mum who was more loved and cared for by her 3 daughters and she truly loved her family in return. What a comfort that it’s only goodnight...you’ll see her in the morning and that will be a glorious reunion!

So many happy memories of such a lovely lady and the great times shared between our families. Especially the Boxing Day food and games. Sad not to be able to be with you all to pay our respects but lovely to be able to share in such a lovely service online.

Our memories of Aunty Lydia are of a woman whose presence you left feeling uplifted, she was incredibly, warm, kind, encouraging and funny. She made us feel so genuinely welcome and part of whatever was happening. A very special lady, whose love of Jesus shone through.

I first met Max and Lydia MConkey when I was 17 , newly arrived from England to train as a nurse in Musgrave Park Hospital. The McConkeys became a second family to me. Lydia was always so gracious, always beautiful in her heart as well as her dress. She loved a laugh and I loved her baking. I can’t remember one time I heard her get angry or raise her voice she was a truly special lady and will be fondly remembered. So many happy memories of the times spent with the family. A bonus for me I was introduced to Heather who became the best friend anyone could ever have. Mrs McConkey had a great sense of humour and she and Fred always found something to laugh about when we would visit. We will never forget this amazing special lady.
