In memory of our much loved colleague of 26 years, Professor Julie Attenborough (Professor of Nursing at City, University of London). After working in community mental health services specialising in substance use problems and homelessness, Julie joined City, University of London in 1997. Julie was not only a truly exceptional member of our team but also a valued friend to many. A registered mental health nurse, her knowledge, dedication, warmth, and humour have had a profound impact on countless lives, and her absence reverberates across our University and the wider healthcare education community. Julie successfully completed her Professional Doctorate with a thesis titled ‘Nursing on the Edge – nursing identity in liminal spaces’. Julie’s passionate advocacy of the Nursing profession, and of the role and experience of healthcare students, was at the heart of everything she did. She had a strong national reputation for pedagogical research and the evaluation of educational interventions to promote work-based learning and supervision in clinical practice. Her extensive contributions to the healthcare education landscape, and the indelible mark she has left on all those who knew and loved her, will be her lasting legacy. We will miss Julie so very much; our thoughts are with her husband Steve and her children, Matt, Ed and Phoebe at this incredibly sad and difficult time.

Oh Julie, I don't know where to begin and cannot believe I am even typing a condolence for you. My earliest memory of you is when I first joined City and you used to always come down to the student information desk back at West Smithfield and say hello and inform me about the new virtual learning now known as moodle. Any and everything nursing you were the go to person and School of Health Sciences will never be same without you. Thank you for your patience and help. You will be missed dearly

It is so hard to express how deeply saddened I am by Julie's death. It has been absolutely amazing to know Julie over the last 26 years at City. Julie has been a legend, her insightfulness, sensitivity, care for others both colleagues and students. She was an incredible leader, mentor and friend who always had time for everyone. Her professionalism but at the same time sense of humour and fun was infectious. She is an angel and I know she is in a higher place. Julie, you will not be forgotten because you have touched so many people at City, in the Nursing profession and across all the communities you have been involved with. We will not forget all your amazing speeches for so many. Thank you for all your support over the years. Julie was a very special lady. Her devotion to her profession was evident and she spent many a night burning the midnight oil. However busy Julie was she found time for those who approached her for guidance. She had a way of nurturing the best out of a person. Julie was well respected by colleagues and students. She had compassion and more importantly a great sense of humour. Even though I had a head start to Julie working in the school it was 9 years ago that I became her PA. It was such a privilege to have looked after her but I have a feeling it was the other way round at times. Thank you Julie for being you. This is farewell for now Julie love.
