As a department, we were all shocked by the sudden passing of Jovana just before Christmas. As a department chair, I witnessed her energy in developing foundation Reshape Work, awarded veni grant on worker resistance to algorithmic management, and initiating the Moonshot seminar series. I have always enjoyed my conversations with her, full of energy and ambition. She will surely be missed.

This is sad, and saddening, beyond words. It’s been many years since Jovana was my undergraduate student at Amsterdam University College, but I’ve never forgotten her wonderful, radiant energy – so uniquely hers – and the good cheer and bright intelligence which she used to bring to the classroom. After graduating she stayed at AUC as a graduate assistant and I enjoyed the occasional chat with her. She always struck me as full of promise – as driven, joyful and deeply kind. My heartfelt condolences to her family, partner and friends.

EU-OSHA is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Jovana Karanovic. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr Karanovic’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with her.

I just cannot believe that Jovana is gone. She was a very special person all around: scholar, personality... force of nature. My sincere condolences to her family, partner and loved ones.

Jovana was a rare force. Her work on Reshaping Work was deeply inspiring to me, not only because of its intellectual sharpness, but because it was driven by genuine care for people, society, and the future of work. She combined vision with warmth, ambition with generosity, and strength with openness in a way that left a lasting impression on everyone around her. I will remember her as someone who did not just talk about change, but embodied it. Her energy, clarity, and courage will continue to inspire many of us, even in her absence. My heartfelt condolences to her partner, family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who was touched by her life and work. I wish you strength, comfort, and light in this incredibly difficult time.

I still cannot comprehend the heartbreaking news of Jovana's passing, which reached me three weeks ago. I knew Jovana as a passionate bridge builder who used her various roles and positions to bring people out of their silos and beyond their interests and bring them together to move forward. I will remember Jovana as a positive people person and connector with an open and curious attitude and a great deal of ambition and commitment. It is difficult to accept that an “expedition buddy” is no longer with us. My condolences to her family, loved ones, friends and colleagues. I wish everyone strength in coping with this great loss.
