John Hickling lived in Stodmarsh with his wife Sheila. They had been married for almost 58 years and had two children, Lucy & James, as well as two grandchildren, Charlotte & Katie. John was a wonderful man who tried to see the best in everyone and always had time to listen and give practical advice. He had many interests and enjoyed being busy. He was a popular member of the community and loved to chat on his way around the village. John will be greatly missed by many and if you would like to share a memory or write a message, please do so as a tribute to this remarkable, kindhearted and thoughtful man.

Very sad to discover this news. John (and Sheila) were great friends of my Mother Rosemary - who also passed away recently: 3rd March 2021. John was a solid rock guiding Mum through her company accounts with her Newsagent business in Wingham. She always would say how John urged her to take out a private pension, which she did and was able to live a comfortable and independent retirement. I remember his beaming smile and generosity with his time and attention. Best wishes. Nick Wall
