Edward Schwarz

My deepest sympathies and condolences. I just heard about this. What a shock. Edi was a wonderful human being who I knew both from my time in Bangkok and in Zurich. He was always so helpful and someone who would look out for others. This is truly a shock.

Oh no! I just heard about this! I've enjoyed the absolutely amazing person that Edi Schwarz was at many Holcim events! What a truly sad loss. It always gave me such a great feeling to see him, and what an amazing guy he was - always making those around him feel good and being a rock star at managing all kinds of craziness at Holcim events. He will be truly missed. Thanks Edi for all that you did to really make the world a better place!

So sad to hear this news. I did not know Edi personally but met him at the 2020 Holcim awards ceremony in Venice, Italy. He seemed to be a very caring person who brought a lot of warmth to the proceedings. Deepest condolences to family, friends and colleagues.

edi, You have been a ray of sun since the day I met you. It still feels hard to believe you are no longer with us. During all those years, it has been a pleasure and an honour to witness your ease and your passion in everything you did. I will always remember our conversations as if time had stopped, from Venice to Zurich, from Berlin to Cairo. You have been an advocate of sustainable construction with ferveur and yet patience, pioneering the understanding of the topic on multiple dimensions. Continuing to act on what you worked on is our own way to say thank you. I’m sending all my thoughts to your dear ones.

The Zaimis family in Athens and me personally wish to express our condolences to the family of Edward and to the Holcim Foundation for the unexpected and unjust passing away of our dear friend Edward. Our families have enjoyed our friendship for many decades and he will be missed.

I was always grateful to you and your colleagues to give me the chance to participate in the 2019 Lafarge Holcim symposium. I feel that we really lost you. I send my deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Edi, my deepest condolences to your family. Edi as the head of the foundation, got to be a profoundly consequential individual for our society, perhaps without him sustainability would not be what it is. You will be missed.

Edi was the Holcim Foundation - a fixed and usually calm point in a hectic and often rapidly evolving landscape of corporate undercurrents, academic sensitivities and logistical nightmares. I say 'usually' because as several of you attest, he knew when to raise the temperature - and also when to laugh about it. For some reason he had a penchant for New Zealand and on his very last visit came to my farm for a very happy lunch. Bhaady and I can't express how sad we are to be robbed of his future company. But we draw some real comfort from the fact that everyone who has expressed their condolences has described a figure whom we immediately recognise - a kind but businesslike, funny but serious and totally dedicated individual whom we are privileged to have known.
