Dr Olusegun Akinsoji Freeman

I am lost for words but grateful to God for a life well lived Daddy. You were a rare gem, you loved and treated everyone like you would your children. Thank you for being my daddy while alive. Adieu Daddy and rest with Jehovah.

Olusegun was my classmate at UI, a very friendly and dedicated physician we were all proud of. We shall miss him. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

Tribute to our father's maternal cousin from the Akinyemi family. Our deepest condolences to Dr. Olusegun Freeman's siblings. Dr. Olusegun Freeman has been very kind to us since our father, (Mr Oyeyinka Akinyemi) passed away in January 1998 at the age of 60. It is with deepest sadness and sorrow that we are writing this tribute to you. Often times we wish death was not a part of life, we wish we would just stay alive on earth with our dear ones not passing. We also pray that the soul of our late uncle will rest in perfect peace. Free,Free, you came you saw and you conquered. Wherever you worked as a physician, you left behind a record of what a physician should be .You went to Igbinedion Teaching Hospital because you felt you could make a difference and you definitely did achieve that in a big way. It is a pity that you had to leave us so soon. May your gentle spirit rest in perfect peace. Amen. Adieu my good friend.

We have lost a gentleman, brother and colleague in Dr Olusegun Freeman. Known variously by many appellations since l knew him 60 years - Freeman of Freeman House (at Igbobi College), free free, Oooo Freeman, Olu Freeman, Olusegun Ooo Freeman etc. An embodiment of humility, love, kindness and generosity in a special way. Segun was very true to his friends, particularly to his classmates at Igbobi 59 to 63, a few more during his stint at Grammar in Ibadan, a lot more at Saltan Bello Hall in U of I, and Faculty of Science, later in Medical School UI/UCH 67 to 72. We were in same positing in Medical School for five years. So, when l say he is a complete gentleman you will understand l knew him and lived closely with him. We stayed in same room in our Aro posting. Very intelligent and of very few words. As a Clinician and Consultant, his bedside care and attention (rare these days) was excellent. A University lecturer loved by his students and mentored many of them; a lone ranger in Benin when it came to Lecturer/Consultant politics and ethnic rivalry. When he was CMD at Okada, Igbinedion University he tried to persuade me to join the Staff. Perhaps this was borne out of our relationship and knowledge of expertise of one another, previously on returning from his sojourn in Saudi Arabia, we head hunted him for Mobil Medical Department in Lagos as a Contract Consultant Physician for over 3 years. He left indelible footprints of love and exemplary health care amongst workers in Mobil House Clinic and ExxonMobil Workers in general. Segun’s passing last week had been a shock to many of us, though very ill, endured and kept to himself, never wanting to stress or hurt anyone. Segun was an achiever in the field of Medicine/Research, Healthcare and Education; so he should be celebrated and for us to thank God for giving us such a human being. His loving wive preceded him in death, and with Taiye are now both in the bosom of our Lord. We commiserate with his beautiful and accomplished children, as well as the many grandchildren, families and in-laws. May the Lord grant them favor and strength to bear the irreparable loss. To his friends and colleagues ‘odun a jinna si ra. Amin’. May his gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace and light perpetual shine on his soul O Lord. Adieu Olusegun omo Freeman till we meet again at the resurrection morning to part no more in Jesus Name. Amen.

Dr Segun Freeman of Freeman House of Igbobi College was a worthy ambassador of our old school. He was a gentleman to the core, very compassionate and kind hearted. He was an excellent clinician and a great teacher and mentor of young minds. He was a humble man of God who put Christ before anything else. He will be surely missed. May he rest in peace and may the Almighty God grant his family the fortitude to bear his loss. Rest in peace my friend till we meet again at the feet of our Lord Jesus Christ.
