R. Danvers "Danny" Williams, the Jamaica College community mourns the loss of a cherished alumnus and philanthropist. Danny, as he was affectionately known, was a beacon of light during Jamaica College's darkest times, transforming the lives of students and teachers alike. Founder of the nation's first Jamaican-owned life insurance company, Life of Jamaica, now Sagicor Life Jamaica, he was a pioneer and a dedicated servant to his country. Danny's unwavering commitment to his alma mater was unparalleled. He generously donated his time and resources, raising millions of dollars for Jamaica College and created the Jamaica College Foundation. His impact was immeasurable, offering countless promising young men the opportunity to make a difference in the world. His accolades, including the National Honour of Commander of the Order of Distinction and the Order of Jamaica, were testament to his selfless dedication to community service. A man of profound humility, Danny graciously donated the proceeds from his biography to the Jamaica College Foundation R. Danny Williams Scholarship Endowment Fund, ensuring future generations would benefit from his legacy. His spirit, kindness, and generosity will forever echo through the halls of Jamaica College. Danny leaves behind a legacy of inspiration, reminding us all to give selflessly and make a difference in the lives of others.

Danny, My deepest condolences to your wife Shirley, and all your family and friends, among whom I feel priviledged to have counted myself. May I say that, not only did you try to make a difference, you did so BIG TIME - for Jamaica, and for the school we both loved so dearly. On a personal note, I want to acknowledge my thanks and appreciation for the initiative you took in printing and distributing to the school 2000 copies of my book, "Hash and Roast Beef" - a memoir of my days as a school boy at JC in the 1940's. "The Ideal Citizen, is one who plants trees under whose shade he knows he will never sit." Danny, you were the epitome of the ideal citizen. Walk good, old friend and God bless. RIP.
