Denis Sheridan

Denis graced our Christmas table in New York regularly in many recent years and was a joy to know as a conversationalist and a friend. With the ‘gift of the gab,’ a lovely baritone speaking voice, s wonderful Irish lilt and a wealth of knowledge, he always made me better informed about the world at large for knowing him. Rest well, Denis.

I didn't know my fellow UN colleague personally but reading Sema's eulogy of him made me wish I did. Denis sounds like a wonderful person. May he rest in eternal peace.

Happy memories of golf with the United Nations Golf Society organised with great efficiency by Denis in 2001/2002. Denis became a good friend and we looked forward to meeting him on our many visits to New York in later years. May he Rest in Peace.

Dear All, Please see below details on Denis' Funeral Mass celebrated by Father Frank Lennie on: Saturday, November 6th at 2.00 pm at Saint Anthony's Church, 267 Diamond Bridge Avenue, Hawthorne, NJ 07506 followed by repast at BlackJack Mulligan's across the street from St. Anthony's. Please join us in person if you can and feel free to share this information with those Denis has been in contact with. We will provide a YouTube live stream for his family who will be gathering around the world to honor their brother's memory and to celebrate his life. The Church can be reached easily via train from Manhattan, as it's a short walk from the train station. Denis' cousin Eugene offered to transport up to five people in his van to the Mass, but would like a meeting point on 86th street. Alternatively, you could also share an Uber or take bus 163 from Port Authority to Ridgewood and take a cab from there. We have lost a kind, caring and a real friend. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

Denis Sheridan was a man of many interests, mysteries, and a facility with language which lent credence and colour as he expounded on rare and obscure facts. I never asked him if he was related to the writer Sheridan but he had an uncanny ability to provide arcane or rare information on many subjects. Denis had an unfailing sense of concern and compassion for the underdog and he always embraced justice for those who had little or no power. His sense of decency, honour, and integrity was appreciated by the many who met Denis in his far too short passage in this world. May he Rest in Peace.

I was very sorry to to hear that Denis has died. I had known him for many years at the United Nations bridge Club, and he was a very nice person

Our friend and colleague has passed away. We are bereft of his company. Only good memories will be cherished. R.I.P. and God’s blessings on the way.
