Charles Christian

I only just learnt of Charles’ passing and my thoughts are with Jane and their family and friends. When we were starting out, Charles took a gamble on working with us. We were still in university and had a lot to learn, but Charles was generous enough to put his trust in us. He was immensely knowledgeable, generous in spirit and a pleasure to work with and learn from. Myself and the team will miss him but will forever appreciate the support and opportunities he afforded us to get on.

Very sad to see this. Charles was kind enough to help fund a short film I made a few years ago and I really appreciated his enthusiasm and support. He seemed like a lovely man. Sending my condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sorry to read of Charles' passing. I was still waiting to see a post on his Facebook page telling us about how he was recovering well in amongst jokes and witty observations on life. We never met but Charles did interview me for his radio show. The world has lost a clever, astute, funny and kind man. My heart goes out to Jane and all his family and friends who'll miss him on a daily basis.

Such sad news. I met Charles more than 20 years ago and have enjoyed reading The Orange Rag, his books, Weird Tales videos and radio show, tales from Norfolk (my home County) and amusing LinkedIn posts, especially Dilbert. Such an intelligent and interesting character - a great loss. My condolences to his family.

Charles has been a constant throughout my 25 years in the legal technology space and for many of us he has chronicled our entire careers (a large part of them on orange paper!). As others have mentioned, he created this space that we call "Legal Technology" or "Legal IT" and he (and his writing) will be sorely missed by all those individuals and companies that play around in it. Of course we will also miss his humour and infectious laugh! My condolences to Jane and all the family. RIP Charles.

I was saddened to hear of Charles' passing. I will always remember the humorous twinkle in his eye (and also his voice) when he was asking questions, whether it was for LTI or for Weird Tales; now that was the most surreal interview ever! My thoughts go out to Jane and all his family and friends. RIP Charles: may your spirit spookily, funnily and lovingly haunt us for evermore.

I wish to convey my condolences to Charles' family and friends. Although I never had the opportunity to meet him in person, he helped me professionally. Journalists receive more pitches than they can deal with. I remember I pitched him a story, and he said it was too peripheral. I asked him for further feedback, and he took the time to respond and give me some invaluable advice. Legaltech journalists get way too many pitches along the lines of "X has happened - what does this mean for the ediscovery industry" - it's all FUD fear, uncertainty, and doubt. Charles was not interested in FUD; he was interested in real stories, not hypothetical ones. Of course, what that meant is I was sharing a marketing use case, not an on-the-record account. Those can be elusive. Charles made the world better through his generosity of time and mentorship. Even though he didn't print what I had pitched at the time, he took his valuable time to improve my efforts. Charles was a force for good, and I am saddened to learn of his passing.

When we met, we used to have a chuckle about being from Suffolk, not the norm for most in legal IT. He was gracious and kind to me, I was so pleased and honoured when I asked him to put a few words into a reference for me and he did exactly that. In a world where so many promise so much and deliver so little, he was uncompromising, independent and true. Rest in Peace.
