Edugie Caroline Osagie-Ehianata : A Life of Dedication and Service

Edugie Caroline Osagie-Ehianata was born on April 24, 1947, to Chief Edward Ohangbon Osagie and the late Mrs. Anna Osagie (née Aibangbee). Her early education began in Benin City at Anglican Girls Grammar School, where she studied from 1962 to 1967. She then advanced to Oyemekun Grammar School in Akure for her higher education. Caroline's academic pursuits led her to the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife), where she earned a B.Sc. in Botany. It was during her time at university that she met and married her late husband, Nathaniel Osagie Ehianata, on April 18, 1976. After completing her degree, she returned to Benin City for her compulsory National Youth Service Corps. She furthered her education by obtaining a Master of Education in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos. The union with her husband was blessed with six children. Caroline began her professional career as a teacher in the former Bendel State. In 1978, she moved to Lagos and joined the State Teaching Service Commission, where she dedicated herself to education, eventually rising to the position of Director before retiring at the age of 60. Throughout her illustrious career, she held various headship positions at several schools across Lagos State, including New Era Girls’ Secondary School, Herbert Macaulay Secondary School, Akintan Grammar School, Iponri Estate High School, and Lagos Progressive Secondary School. A devoted Christian and ordained Evangelist, Caroline was a pillar in her church, Christ Mission Solution Church in Ketu. As the matron of the children’s ministry, she dedicated her life to nurturing the spiritual growth of the youth. Her generosity extended beyond her family and church, as she sponsored many children to complete their SSCE and university education, reflecting her deep commitment to the development of those around her. Caroline was not only a devoted mother and grandmother but also an industrious entrepreneur. Together with her husband, she built a successful pharmaceutical firm in Lagos. After a brief illness, Edugie Caroline Osagie-Ehianata passed away at the age of 77. Her life was a testament to unwavering dedication, compassion, and service to her family, community, and God.
