Carlos Garita Alvarado

Although my time getting to know Carlos was brief, he was always kind and thoughtful, with a love and passion that was on display when you talked with him. My heart is with his family and loved ones in this time of grie.

I enjoyed my short time working with Carlos. He was always willing to share his ideas about study design or presentation style, and his opinions were always thoughtful and well informed. He truly enjoyed thinking about fish and everything fishy, which was wonderful to see. It is deeply sad that he is gone too soon. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

While I only knew Carlos for a brief period of time, his passion for his work was inspiring. I spoke with him about fishing on several occasions and he told me about his love for cast net fishing. I wish I had had the privilege to know him longer and get to know him better. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends. He will be dearly missed. Hablé con él sobre la pesca en varias ocasiones y él me contó sobre su amor por la pesca con atarrayas. Ojalá hubiera tenido el privilegio de conocerlo por más tiempo y conocerlo mejor. Mis pensamientos y oraciones van a su familia y amigos. Él será extrañado.

I knew Carlos for a brief period of time and wish I'd known him for longer. I really enjoyed sharing what we brought for our lab lunches because he had the yummiest food, learning about the fish he was going to study, and also finding sea stars and other cool critters together while tidepooling! He will be missed. Sending all of my regards to his family and loved ones. Conocí a Carlos por poco tiempo pero me hubiera gustado conocerlo mucho antes. Disfrutaba mucho compartir lo que traíamos a los almuerzos del lab, porque él siempre traía las comidas más deliciosas, aprendíamos de los peces que iba a estudiar y también las estrellas de mar y otros animales interesantes que encontraba en los esteros. Se le va a extrañar muchísimo. Mando todos mis respetos y condolencias a sus familiares y sus seres queridos.

Carlos was a very kind person and passionate about his research. He will be greatly missed. I send my deepest condolences to his friends and family.

It was an honor to have met Carlos at the Kelley Lab this year. Although I didn't have much time with him, every moment was filled with engaging conversations and shared laughter.
