Brian Gilchrist

Brian started as a lecturer in the Department of Nursing studies at King's College London in 1987 before leaving in 2006. Brian was Head of Pre-registration Education for six years and was instrumental supporting colleagues to ensure students had an excellent education and learning experience at King’s. He left the Faculty to take up the post of Director of Nurse Education and Head of School at Universal College of Learning in Palmerston North New Zealand. Brian’s area of expertise was wound care and he moved to Smith and Nephew in 2011. His most recent move to the post of Director of Clinical Strategic Wound which bought him back to England in 2018. Brian was a colleague and friend to many, some of whom are still in the Faculty and will remember him in many different ways. His partner and daughter, Karen and Claire, have asked for anecdotes from those who knew him.

I met Brian when we trained as nurses in Wellington hospital in New Zealand in the mid 70s. 1977 I believe we attended many parties and pubs over the years and had such a wonderfull time whilst training he was such a wonderfull friend and collegue. His interest was microbiology and imparting his knowledge onto others . He was always kind and a thoroughly good chap. I will miss him and remember him fondly

This is such sad news. We all remember him well from Chelsea and Kings for his great contribution. Not only his Distinction in the Masters for an exceptional thesis but his graphic lectures on wound healing! His organisational skills were famous as was his capacity to know all students names and grades. We had some fun times in those days particularly when starting up new degrees! I will always be thankful for his friendship , knowledge and loyalty( and of course his ability to spot the best sandwich outlet!)
