Alan Woodiwiss MBE was a wonderful man, who achieved many amazing things in his 88 years. One lasting legacy was the football club he created on September 9th 1954, Sutton High FC, which to this day continues to thrive. There have been many ups and downs over the years at the club, but one constant was Alan, always there to support and to throw in one of his many quips. There have been many over the years who have continued the good work of the football club, but only one reason why everyone did it: Alan. He passed away on December 28th, 2021, surrounded by his family – he leaves behind 2 daughters, Julia and Marian, and 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild – and I am sure many will want to leave their lasting memories of the great man here.

I’m gutted to hear that Alan is no longer with us. When I first joined the club, he saw me in my first game for the Reserves & said “You’ll be in the first team next week”... how wrong he was... but his words of encouragement were always welcome & that’s what he did, he always encouraged people to get involved & enjoy the game. He was one of the main reasons I‘ve spent over 15 years in grassroots football, seeing that dedication & passion to his club & all the hard work that goes into it behind the scenes. He was even coming to watch games right up until Covid hit, standing on the sidelines in all weathers & enjoying a drink with the team after. It’s so sad that just before Covid hit we had plans for an end of season game that was going to celebrate all of the hard work he had not only put into Sutton High FC, but also into grassroots football too. ... but we did get some time together filming the advert for the event, & when doing this it was great to hear him share his fond memories at the club. I am also glad that Alan got to give his input on the revamp of the club badge, & we, as a club, wanted his initials stamped on it... Alan Woodiwiss is Sutton High FC... then, now, forever. RIP Legend, you will be missed.
