Vishna Rasiah

19 juli 1971 - 23 april 2020

Dr Vishna Rasiah, beloved husband, father, brother, son and a well-respected and much-loved colleague at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s, has sadly passed away following treatment for COVID-19. Dr Rasiah, known to all his friends as Vish, was a Consultant Neonatologist at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and was highly-regarded across the Midlands as part of his role as Clinical Lead for the regional Neonatal network. Vish was a proud husband and father. His wife Liza said: “We’re devastated at losing our beloved Vish. He was such a loving husband and father to our beautiful daughter Katelyn, and much loved son and brother to our family in Malaysia and Trinidad. His whole family meant the world to him, and he absolutely doted on Katelyn. Vish loved his work; to him it was so much more than a job and his colleagues are part of our family too. He treated every patient and family he cared for as his own; I couldn’t have been prouder of him. I would like to thank the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital for the kindness, compassion and the care that they have provided to us over an incredibly difficult past few weeks.”

Dear Liza It is heartbreaking to know that we have lost Vish. My thoughts are with you and Katelyn at this difficult time. Vish has been an inspirational colleague, friend and mentor for me. It doesn’t seem that long ago when I met you both at Sheffield. Vish inspired us all who worked with him to enjoy neonates and his passion and love for his work shone everyday. I didn’t get a chance to work with you but I remember your kind and gentle manners. I worked with Vish again at Birmingham and it was a privilege to learn from him: how to be a better doctor and human being every day. He spoke so fondly of you and he was so pleased when you got your job at Worcester soon before I left Birmingham. I remember how he offered to cover for me so I could attend my daughter’s fourth birthday party at her nursery. He was the most caring and perceptive person in the team and everyone loved and respected him. We met at a conference couple of years ago and talked about our children. His love for Katelyn was evident to anyone who knew him and you both were his world. He will certainly live in the hearts of all of us who were privileged to know him. Katelyn your daddy was an exceptional and amazing dad. Vish you will always live in our hearts. RIP Boss.
