Peter (Jim) Landers was sadly taken from us on 01/01/2021. Peter was a doting son to Jean and Matthew, a loving and dependable father, father in-law, brother and uncle to Chris, Mike, Rachel, Susan, Natalie and Stephanie and a loyal colleague and friend to so many. In these unusual times we would love for this page to be somewhere we can all share memories of Peter and allow him to carry on bringing joy to people as he so loved to do during his life.

Peter was a man for all people, he had a real positive impact on everyone personally and professionally. On a personal note the footie banter was a bit of a challenge for Peter, being a Swans Fan ... That said I acquired 3 tickets for Swansea V Spurs a few seasons back, he and Karl agreed to come along not knowing the tickets were in the away end! Packed to the rafters and Spurs winning it was just hilarious that he said to me "If we cant beat them I may as well join them" so he stood up and joined in with all the singing, he then sang his Swansea rendition "oh when the swans go marching in" .. Classic wit and humour & the Tottenham faithful surrounding him all laughed along. A great man, wonderful human being.. RIP Pete!

I joined MotoNovo at the same time as Peter towards the end of 2016. I feel extremely blessed to have met him when I started at MotoNovo, as his guidance and feedback in that first year made a big impact and proved very helpful in my own development, something that I will forever be grateful for. I always enjoyed our time working together, and will miss our interesting conversations, as Peter had the ability to provide an interesting perspective on almost any topic. At work, Peter was a walking encyclopaedia of knowledge, providing wise counsel to his colleagues, and his vast experience was invaluable. I was fortunate enough to spend a week with Peter attending a course at London Business School in London in 2017, which was a fantastic experience enriched by Peter’s company, wit and insights, creating some wonderful memories that I will always treasure. He will be immensely missed, and my thoughts are with his family and colleagues during this time.

I am very sad and a little shocked to hear that Peter has passed on. Although I have not seen Peter for many years I reminisced about working with him very recently during a conversation with someone else that had the pleasure of working with him at Capital Bank. I remember Peter as intelligent, hardworking and focused with exceptional industry knowledge. I once asked him how he kept on top of all the industry developments, news and general goings on. He told me that he used to store up articles and papers that seemed interesting and then read them in the bath! I didn’t know Peter well enough to ever validate whether that was true, so he could have just said it for a laugh. He had a great sense of humour and was always a pleasure to work with. Rest in peace Peter.

Having first worked with Peter during his time at GT I, like everyone at MNF, was delighted when he joined MotoNovo. Over the last 4+ years he contributed so much to our business. Peter was always the most well read on pretty much any subject, when you needed someone to make that insightful observation or ask the perfect question it was Peter we turned to and there was no better person to mentor, encourage, guide and support colleagues than Peter. He was always the first to recognise talent and effort, the first to point out that we are a people business that thrives when individuality is nurtured and protected. Peter was a truly remarkable person whose guidance, humour, intelligence and support I will miss greatly.

I first met Peter around 25 years ago when he joined Capital Bank Group in the mid 90’s. Over a period of a couple of years we got to know one another really well, sharing a common philosophy on work, business, family and of course good food, wine, music and comedy. As so many have already said Peter was great company, with a terrific sense of humour. He would frequently share stories of his pride and love for his family, his sons, his sister and his father. As our friendship grew we made a point of booking on the same business trips, which gave us plenty of opportunity to indulge in our shared appreciation of the subjects above, which would invariably lead to us putting the world to rights by the time we got to bed, usually very late and after the hotel staff had already shut up shop for the night. I have particularly fond memories when Peter and I were the Sales Directors (Peter for the North UK and myself South UK) for Capital Bank Motor. Although we were both very competitive - we even had a day and evening multi event/all day challenge between the 2 senior teams (football, clay pigeon shooting etc) to decide the Top Region. It never got in the way of our friendship.We would frequently share examples of great language to each other and one of the last ones we talked about just before Xmas was the quote from a famous American sports journalist from almost 100 years ago. We both thought it quite poignant and summed up how we both felt about so many things in life. It was by Grantland Price... “For when the one great scorer Comes to mark against your name He writes, not that you won or lost But how you played the game” Whilst it was written in relation to American Football we agreed it would probably be the way we are judged in the end. I am sorry I can’t be with you at Peter’s funeral. I will miss him, as will all the people who knew him. Peter was a thoughtful, kind, generous and caring man. I’m glad I got to know him so well and although he has left us early, we can be thankful that he was a part of our lives. All my best wishes to the family. Paul

What a loss! The laughter and sense of humour will be hard to replace. The daily What's App - with comments and jokes. Telephone conversations in the manner of "Derek and Clive" the wicked sense of humour. Comparing notes of our respective medical conditions with an overlaying black humour, seeing his recovery and return to work. To be stuck down after such a brave and courageous journey is such a tragedy. Peter you will always be here!

I was lucky enough to be introduced to Peter 30 years ago - I can unequivocally say I never met a more erudite, hilariously funny man. I'm so privileged to have spent time in his company, usually accompanied by great food, ALWAYS accompanied by vast quantities - gallons! - of red wine, and laughing so hard wine came out of my nose. His conversation was both interesting and interested in equal measure, a true gentleman, wit and all round decent human being. I am honoured to have counted him as a friend. My heart felt commiserations to his family and friends.

I met Peter many years ago when he was with Steph. He was such an intelligent and interesting man...and so funny. We had such lovely times and in-depth discussions putting the world to rights. He was so lovely with Steph, they would go on last minute adventures together and I couldn’t wait to hear the tales when they returned. Peter would always listen intently to others and ask questions you would never think to ask but you would end the conversation with a much deeper understanding than when you started. A truly gifted man who will be sadly missed and my heart goes out to his family and friends and of course my best friend Steph.

I met Peter decades ago when he came to Paris et spend a weekend with Steph. They stayed in our apartment and we enjoyed Paris together. After he left, we found his coton white trousers, he had forgotten them, and we kept them for years, they even followed us in South Africa I also remember he went to San Francisco with Steph, just for a few days, and we thought how crazy and romantic such a trip could be !

Every memory of my uncle is full of fun & happiness - anytime I've been told "uncle Peter is coming down" I knew it was a guarantee that the days would be filled with jokes & some of the funniest stories I've ever heard - no one will ever compete when it comes to storytelling abilities. As Ive gotten older, uncle Peter was my first call for advice, especially with work - I certainly wouldn't be at the place I am in my career right now with out his help. I've had some of the best advice ever, including "don't be David Brent when talking to people" (a voice note I have saved to listen to when needed) We shared very similar views on world events & we would have brilliant conversations on these matters, usually with a joke & comment that would raise a smile. Ill miss him every single day XX

I have so many fond memories of Peter and feel privileged and incredibly lucky to have worked under his leadership. Peter always took the time to provide support and guidance, but also to really get to know you and for you to know him. 121s with Peter always consisted of 25 minutes of the most inspirational stories, 4 minutes of priority sharing and a minute early finish (so that he was on time for the next meeting - he really didn't like to be late). Peter gave me the best advice when I needed it the most on so many occasions, he took the time to care and he always checked back in. One particular occasion he shared with me words of wisdom, his mantra he called it. I wrote them down, pinned them to my noticeboard and look at them every day. "It's not about the cards you're dealt, but how you play the hand" ...and by gosh did he play an amazing hand. An inspiration leader and an incredibly caring man who will be extremely missed.

I shall miss you Peter; can it really have been 1996 when we first met? As a colleague and friend, you were calm, considered and considerate, humorous and the embodiment of a team player in your approach. In and out of work, humour was always close by. Even without words, your twinkling eyes, often accompanied by a wry smile or facial expression, spoke volumes. All too often, in meetings that ‘look’ had me giggling (sometimes at an inappropriate moment). Once I started, so did you, pointing the finger of blame at me as you started and your laugher was always infectious. That is what I will remember most about you.

Having worked closely with Peter during my time at MotoNovo his support in developing our car aggregation service and associated change was invaluable. His challenge and insight was always well thought out and welcome and more than once stopped us going down a rabbit hole that would have been difficult to come out of. I will miss our catch ups where we talked about setting the world to right and very little about work, his guidance was always spot on with a large dose of humour and laughter. Taken far too soon and will leave a very large gap in both the company and my world.

Peter was the consummate professional yet was able to balance that with a wicked sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. He made me feel incredible welcome when I joined MNF and was able to help me adjust from the wider corporate banking world to be part of a much smaller family. A great loss indeed. Just seeing his picture on our intranet site has brought tears to my eyes.

I have known Peter at a distance for many years we shared many mutual colleagues within Lloyds Banking Group, BOS and MotoNovo. It was a pleasure to finally meet Peter at MotoNovo. A true gentlemen and not a question he could not answer. A great sense of humour and certainly someone who would listen at all times, with fantastic views, and not without a smile.

I spent the last 6 months working very closely with Peter. He was a brilliant executive. He had the ability to both challenge and understand. He was able to see issues from a variety of viewpoints and had a knack of framing questions in a way which really helped people think about how best to solve an issue. I will miss his determination, his wisdom, his clarity of insight and his dry sense of humour.

I came into contact with Peter about 12 months whilst working on a project together. From the first interaction we had I knew he was a special person, with great integrity, and a fantastic dry sense of humour. Our relationship developed to such an extent that I looked forward to his banter, and ability to remove ambiguity from detailed business discussions. A true gent, and someone I will greatly miss.

I spent just over 12 months working with Peter at MotoNovo, with half of that time under his direct leadership. I thoroughly enjoyed that time and always welcomed interaction with Peter, whether that be through the formality of progressing a particular piece of work, or just having a general chat about life on whatever was topical at that time. Peter was always calm, thoughtful and pragmatic, qualities which made him a true leader and a great source of inspiration. Although I hadn't known Peter that long, I was always able to have an open and honest conversation with him, which would inevitably lead to him sharing a relevant story of some description which would always have a funny twist! Several team members have mentioned that Peter would always find time to stop, chat and listen to colleagues at all levels within the business, which demonstrates what a genuine and kind man he was. It is a desperate shame that Peter has been taken before his time and my thoughts and prayers go out to Peter's family at this tragic time.

I was lucky enough to spend the past 12 months working closely with Peter whilst getting to know him fairly well. I always looked forward to speaking with Peter. I knew spending time with him meant I'd learn something new and I'd be inspired, wrapped together with a constant theme of fun, laughter and lightheartedness (he had a natural way of making me laugh at the most inappropriate of times!). Across the industry people always spoke highly of him and I soon found out why. In a relatively short space of time he had a big impact on me and I've many great moments I'll recall from our time together. He always had a genuine interest in people and was supportive of those around him. I'll miss him not being around day-to-day and my thoughts are with his family and friends. A true gentleman - thanks for the memories.

How to sum up a friendship and history in just a few lines? Peter and I met 35 years ago when we were both seconded to the Perry dealer group as Business Managers, by UDT the finance house. Within 30 mins of meeting we were sharing observations and jokes, something that has happened on a near daily, certainly weekly basis ever since. We used to meet for a meal/catch up when possible and spend the evening/lunch in tears laughing at a whole range of aspects of life and work. Peter left UDT and we met again, workwise, in 1997 when I joined Forthright Finance (thanks largely to him), part of the Bank of Scotland where Peter had already started to forge a career. Peter was unique amongst my friends and family in that I could and did happily spend hours with him in conversation. We had different views on many things but proved that intelligent (?) debate means you can differ in opinions while remaining firm friends. His humour ranged from the subtle to the infantile as did his observations and I was with him all the way. Some themes remained with us and were repeated from day one. I've lost count of the times we would see something on the TV or in a newspaper and (nowadays) text each other with some form of observation. At one point (years ago) we thought of writing scripts together......The other morning I heard something on TV and immediately thought of texting Peter but sadly, was once again reminded of the fact that I'd never be able to share a laugh with Peter again. Tomorrow, on his 60th birthday I'd have phoned him for another session, now I shall simply look at his last text to me on the Dec 28th look through some old letters/emails/texts etc. to remind me of our loss. Of course, my grief is nothing like the sadness his family are going through and I send my thoughts to them. He was a wonderful friend, so positive in adversity and will never be replaced in my thoughts. Laugh in Peace, Peter.

Peters passing was a huge shock to so many and so very sad for his family and friends. After hearing of his personal struggles with illness makes it all the more unfair that he was taken under such tragic circumstances. Peter was such a kind man and in the short time that I worked with him, it was easy to see why he was highly respected and well thought of. He made a big impact and I was amazed by how knowledgeable and interesting he was, it would have been a pleasure learning more about him and his life. It was awesome how easily he connected with everyone he met, whether internal, external, new or old. He always managed to put me at ease whenever we spoke and I always felt he prioritised well-being over work and made time to talk about life before getting down to business which was really nice, I got the impression that he genuinely cared. On one of our calls I could see the view from his window, which was of the sea and he began exclaiming that there were “some lunatics in the water” (it was freezing). It made me laugh and a laugh goes a long way at the moment. He will be missed. My thoughts go out to his friends and family.

I had the immense privilege of working with Peter over the last year and a bit, including a few months where he was my boss. Peter was inspiring, personable and a rock of support and I am going to miss him a lot. The news of his passing came as a huge shock, and my heart goes out to his friends and family as I know his passing will leave a huge void. Yesterday so many of my colleagues shared with me stories of how Peter has had a positive impact on their lives and careers. One colleague shared a sense of relief whenever Peter's name was on the attendee list of a challenging meeting, as they knew they could count on him for support. Another described Peter as always being at the front of the queue to offer praise and positive feedback which had meant a lot in a challenging year. And a third showed me a Peter quote that they had pinned to their wall as a source of daily inspiration and grounding. I have so many personal examples of Peter's help and support, be it lending me an ear to help order my thoughts or pointed words of wisdom to help cut through the noise and find a way forward. Peter always put work into context - before we ever got into the nuts and bolts of the day job we would always have a good chat about life in general. He would make a point of find out how I was (beyond the usual pleasantries), how my family was, and we would have a good old natter about Swansea and our share experiences. I will miss his directness, his compassion and his wisdom, but will always be grateful that I had the pleasure of knowing him. My thoughts are with his family and friends and all who loved him.

I got to know Peter through a number of different roles at MotoNovo (he held numerous positions in the time that I knew him, testament to his experience and quality, and the reason he was considered such an industry big hitter). From Head of Personal Loans, Head of Strategy, Chief Change Officer and Director of Strategic Partnerships, he always had time for MotoNovians, regardless of the functions they were in, or whether you was working directly with him. I got to know Peter a lot better when I moved into his team, and we bonded over our shared passions of blues guitar and wrist watches. Id arrive in the office early (Peter was often the only person in at times) to hear him blaring out some of his favorite tunes and id make a point to swing by his office to see what he was listening to each day. I must say he did have exquisite taste when it came to blues guitarists. On numerous occasions we would have time together to catch up on work related things and end up down rabbit holes discussing everything from politics, sport, music, through to life's biggest questions and issues (and lots of work of course if my boss is reading!). We remained in regular contact whilst Peter was off battling his health issues, and I was overjoyed when he returned to work. Unfortunately, shortly after Peters return I myself was diagnosed with Cancer. Peter made a real effort to support me as I found myself on a similar journey to the one Peter himself had so bravely come through, and his numerous anecdotes and words of wisdom were of great value to me through this time. I remember specifically going to him for support on how to tell my loved ones of my diagnosis. When I was finally on the mend, and the last time I saw Peter face to face in the office, we both reflected on how wonderful our friends, family and colleagues had been to us through our different challenges. We shared stories, laughed, and eventually Peter kicked me out of his office and sent me on my merry way as we were both welling up talking about our loved ones (he spared us both a bit of a scene there). Peter was such a warm, open and honest man. Perhaps at times more open that he could have been, which only endeared me to him more. He will be dearly missed.

I only had the immense pleasure of being Peter's EA for a little over a year and during that time, I got to know him really quite well. We would have the most interesting weekly calls where we generally discussed everything except work!! He was so knowledgeable on most subjects, especially politics and we would often have a difference of opinion which he seemed to love. I shall truly miss those weekly calls. I sadly lost my father in August of last year and I shall never forget Peter's messages to me which where so heart felt. He gave me hope when there didn't appear to be any and provided a comforting word when the worst happened. Gone from us that smiling face The cheerful pleasant ways The heart that won so many friends In bygone, happy days. A life made beautiful by kindly deeds A helping hand for others needs To a beautiful life, comes a happy end He died as he lived, everyone's friend.....

I have nothing but happy memories of my uncle. I will truly miss his presence brightening up any room that we were in, cracking jokes and having us in stitches, telling us the funniest stories! (From when I was a little girl sitting in nannas, right up to more recent times in my mums). And I already miss the funny videos and jokes he’d actively send me through WhatsApp. Not only did he have the best sense of humour, but he gave the greatest advice too! Being as busy as he was with work, he’d still take time to listen to me babbling through voice note about how I want to progress with my career... I thank him for where I am in my career today, and hopefully make him even prouder, progressing further in the future. I’ll miss him always xxx

for over 40 years i had the pleasure of calling peter (jim) my very close friend,yes we fell out from time to time,so what,he used to get on my nerves,but equally i used to get on his,thats what close friends are for,no matter how long it took we would always eventually get over it,and we started again.I even let him get away with stuffing the flakes in his mouth when he was in the back of my ice cream van,even though it was all around his mouth and he couldnt swallow any more.,and he still denied it !!!... !..we travelled to lots of places,including cardiff ,solihull,and asia,!, but it didnt matter where we went,we had an absolute ball ,and i couldnt have picked a better mate for the journey in life that we had,rest well Jim,..you will always be with me ,and you can bet i will never forget you,wherever i am... Gip.....
