Tony Peers

Tony, you were my most favourite person and ally at the NT. Always kind, considerate and patient. I will miss your messy office, football injury woes, jaunty head tilt and rye smile when considering things. I miss will you deeply, especially our weekly catch ups which always started with talking about Jamie & Benjamin alike and our parenting joys and hurdles. I still cant believe you are gone. But never forgotten. Jen x

Tony was a fantastic, patient, kind man whose door was always open. An absolute pleasure to work with, he helped me like many others when I needed it. I hand on heart would not be here today if it wasn't for him and his wonderful team of Mary & Juliette, I just wish I had said thank you more. Thank you Tony, may you rest in peace. My condolences to his wife Shirley and son Jamie and Tony's family and friends, a true legend who will always be in our hearts xx

I was so sad to hear the news about Tony. I met him over 20 years ago and was lucky enough to work with him in numerous jobs at the National over that time. I loved his knowledge, his care, his humour and his capacity to be available even though you knew he was dealing with a million other things. I'm thinking of his colleagues, friends and of course his family. I feel very lucky to have known Tony.

I wept when I read the news. I can hear Tony’s lovely calm voice now and his sheepish smile and laugh he’d give when explaining some HR technicality to me (in his messy office) that meant I couldn’t simply bash two people’s heads together. I think of him with his footy kit bag slung over his shoulder waiting for the lift. I just loved working with Tony (2005-2013) and valued his advice and experience; he always had time to talk things through My deep condolences to his wife Sarah, Jamie; and to all his friends and colleagues.

I only got to work with Tony for a short time but he quickly became one of my favourite people at the NT. The last year has been difficult to say the least and I often found myself in difficult meetings with Tony - but he always managed to make them feel slightly less awful. Plus our little chats pre or post meetings always cheered me up so much. He was just such an open, generous, funny, kind person and I miss his presence. And if I miss his small presence in my life, I can only imagine the loss of those who knew him far better and far longer. To all his family and friends I send my love and condolences xx

I’m so sorry for your loss. I worked at the NT for 6 years and whilst our paths crossed during that time I only got to work closely with Tony last summer when the company went through its big redundancy period. I am so grateful to have had the privilege of working alongside him. To me he was such a thoughtful, caring, approachable and kind person who I had such a lot of respect and admiration for. My role was sadly one of those made redundant but throughout the whole process Tony made me feel listened to, respected and like an individual instead of just part of the the total number of people leaving the NT. He made the whole process as positive as it could have been, and for that I will be forever appreciative.

I didn't have the pleasure to know Tony personally, but in every company meeting I attended, I was always struck by how he answered the most difficult, thought-provoking questions with such grace, humility and wit. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Tony was an incredibly busy man, always in demand. But he had that rare quality of giving you his full attention whenever you were with him. You were the only thing happening in that moment and that's what made him beloved. He will be so sorely missed, his impact was great.
