Ricky Singh

Ricky Singh was originally from Guyana and came to the UK in the 1960s. In the last 12 years he was the Director of West London Equality Centre (WLEC), a well-established organisation dedicated to assisting the poor and disadvantage to obtain legal advice and assistance. Ricky was passionate about human rights and saw it as weapon in the battle against discrimination and the marginalisation of those in society who would otherwise be denied access to justice. Ricky saw everyone as deserving of protection of the law regardless of who they are, and he recognised the importance of the WLEC in promoting this. He was a shining light in a world of discrimination and hatred. His light shines on in his legacy of the WLEC. He passed away on 27th March 2020 from COVID-19, leaving behind his beloved wife, six children and seven grandchildren.

Words cannot express my shock and devastation at the passing of my dear friend and colleague of over 14 years. My thoughts and prayers are with Sophia and the rest of his entire family at this sad and extremely challenging time. Ricky was an engaging, selfless, dedicated, and caring human, always trumpeting the cause of the disaffected, marginalised and disadvantaged members of society. His commitment and service to West London Equality Council, the Community Advice Programme (CAP), UWL students, work experience students, his staff, and the charities he supported will never be forgotten. A very hard worker, who demonstrated an understanding of the needs of others, and was always willing to help. He will be greatly missed.
