Nero Porter
xx xx, xxxx - xx xx, xxxx
Mr Nero came into our lives on Sherri's birthday on 17/04 in the early 2000's. He was the solo kitty at a petshop in a glass box with no toys except for a fly that we watched him successfully hunt. His name was Tony and he was clearly a stone cold apex predator. We decided to call him Nero because that is "black" in Italian, it was an inside joke because a lot of our pets had been named by us as little kids and so they had very creative and unique names like "Blackie" and "Goldy" (a black and a gold goldfish respectively). We couldn't call him the Spanish word for black, because that is Negro - which doesn't sound very PC! Nero would always come to the front door to greet guests, he would swish between peoples legs and just generally be the most polite and best host ever. So he was very popular and loved by all who knew him. He would swat you as you walked past his cat tree and sometimes even jump on your shoulder like a parrot. Such a personality for a little cat. But he had a dark side... For the longest time, we thought Sooty cat was the one pooping on peoples beds - but after Sooty passed away, the poops kept appearing! Mr Nero was the mad pooper afterall :O Then one day, Nero met his favourite person - Oli! His mama Sherri had picked the absolute best dad for Nero, and their bond is so special. My heart goes out to Oli and Sherri and to everyone who's lives were made brighter - even fleetingly - due to this naughty, cute, incredibly special cat. Thank you Nero for so many years of love and laughter and chaos, and thank you for hanging in there long enough to pass the torch to your new sister Bette. Please tell Flicky how much I love her and miss her and wish both of you and all our loved ones that we have lost could still be here on earth with us. It is never long enough

Dearest Sherri, Oli and all of Nero's beloved extended family. We are so sorry to hear about precious Mr Nero, his cheeky personality and adorableness will be sorely missed. Sending all of our love during this difficult time and reminiscing on the wonderful life and home you two provided for him. May all the special memories you've created together live on xo

We’ll miss you Nero. I’ll always remember you sitting on the ledge waiting to greet me as I walked in the front door and the slightly annoyed look you gave me every time I would pat you like I do my dogs. All our love xx

Sherri, Oli, Bette…this little lad had a way of insinuating himself into your heart. Nero charmed us from the very first day at the pet shop when we couldn’t get him out of our heads and just had to go back and get him. He has been a friend to all (no matter whether human, feline - I remember his fondness for “educating” all our foster kittens - or canine (Flicky was his especial friend, they just seemed to click as soon as they met). He then conned the vets several years ago into telling his parents he only had a few months to live so they should give him whatever he wanted…so living his best life with all the wet food he could want, and his mum and dad letting him have his Christmas pudding bed all year round. Nero, you have been such a special part of our lives for 14 years and will leave a huge hole in our hearts when you go. But I shall take comfort in the knowledge that you knew how much we all loved you, will be suffering no more, and will get to play again with Flicky over the rainbow bridge. Rest in piece little man. You have fought a brave battle, but it’s time to rest. All our love, granny Ruth, grandad Chris, uncle Luke and Uncle Jake xox

Dearest Sherri and Olie, Abuelita, Ingrid and I would like to extent our sincerest condolences to you both. Nero was the sweetest boy- so friendly and so loving. He always had a special hug for me and never got tired of me scratching his cute little head! I'll always have his cute little headbutts in my heart and we'll all miss his hiding in his Christmas pudding. Sooty, Flick, and Rocco will be waiting for him with open pawsies at the Rainbow bridge. Love from Claudie, Abuelita and Ingrid Fuentes Beltran.
