I met Moira back in 2005 when I joined her as a colleague at SSM University of Brighton. I developed great respect and fondness for her over the years. She was a perceptive, insightful and sensitive person who focussed on the things that really mattered in education and in life generally. She was unswerving and tireless in her support of students and made a particular point of helping those who sometimes struggled, nurturing their ability and confidence to achieve important goals. Moira became a supportive friend and we shared many conversations about our respective families and our different hobbies outside work. She was such a kind, thoughtful and bright person who will be missed greatly by those who had the privilege to get to know her. Wishing peace and strength to her family at this very sad and difficult time. Rest in peace Moira. Conor (Sheehan) xx

I had the pleasure of working with Moira for over 10 years, she was such a hard working professional who always put the students first. Her extensive work practice ensured that she always had an interesting story, which brought the students studies to life. I will miss her humour and lovely anecdotes of her beloved Scotland and two boys. Love Angela x

I am shocked and saddened by Moira's passing but will remember her very fondly. She was a warm, supportive colleague who really cared about those she worked with and the students she taught. I always felt uplifted by the kind comments and words of encouragement she shared with me. She will be very much missed by us all. Clare x

I first met Moira many years ago when I worked at City College and she was at SASM. She immediately struck me as straight talking with an obvious commitment to her teaching profession and to supporting her students to the absolute best of her ability. Later, I became Moira’s Subject Lead at Brighton Business School and then the Brighton School of Business and Law; she was always at the forefront in discussions about new initiatives and how best to implement them. She was especially helpful to me and the Subject Group during the Covid crisis when we had to pivot to online delivery, adapting in her quiet, practical manner. A consummate professional with a clear dedication to her tutees and colleagues, she will be greatly missed. Rachael (Carden)

I was working with Moira, and it came as a huge shock as we still chatted on Thursday (days before). Moira was a great inspiration to me because our career trajectories were similar, and her words were always affirming. She was very confident in her impressive achievements, comfortable, open, and accepting of newness and difference, and always willing to support. She was very brilliant and always had at least two extra ways of doing something. She was willing to share as much as she knew while acknowledging one’s achievements and knowledge. Moira welcomed me as if she had known me for years. She was one of the colleagues who made me happy that I decided to lecture. She had the characteristics of an impactful teacher( which carries outside the classroom), and I regularly told my family (home and abroad )about her in the fondest possible way. I will also remember her with the best, most loving, and warmest thoughts, and I will try to pass on the same warmth, support, and acceptance she showed me. I wish I had more time with her. As her family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine how this would feel, knowing how much love, warmth, and support she had and exchanged with even newer people in her life like me. She was also very proud of her sons and talked about them a lot. Yours compassionately Lola Shonubi

I met Moira soon after I started my PhD - even before I became a lecturer. I remember sitting beside her at the Christmas party at the old School of Service Management and having a long chat with her. She spoke fondly of her children and her life back in Scotland. She was also very interested in my research and very kindly helped me find participants - although she didn't know me at all. She will be missed. My thoughts go to her family and friends. Rodrigo.
