Fred George

Sorry to hear that a dear friend from my past has died. We spent some good times together in Hampstead, London. He was a wonderful man and lover in all respects I never met his wife Hilary, but I'm sure she was a very understanding wife . I now suffer from MS and have lots of spare time to reflect on our time together. Love always.

Never been anywhere before or since where one felt welcomed. I have fond memories of Fred and Hilary’s Sunday lunch both the food and the friendship. As my boss and my pastor he was always supportive and I leant so much from his commitment to social and racial justice, His memories live on in all the lives he’s touched including mine. May you rest in peace Fred and rise in glory!

Inspirational, kind, caring, spiritual, a friend to all and hardly ever judgemental. Would we could all be like that? After about 60 years of knowing Fred, his passing leaves a hole in my life but I know that he has gone on to a much better place where, one day, I hope to meet him again. Dear Hilary, you were his other self, rarely did we see one of you without the other. Fred will be with you always whether or not you will be able to see him. He would never leave you alone.of that I am very sure.

So sorry to learn that Fred had passed away. I had met him on a number of occasions and at his retirement. Hilary was a school friend and we met up over the years and shared news of our families and activities. He was much loved and will be missed by so many.

Sorry to hear the news about Fred. It was Fred along with Mike Ewings who baptised me (along with Andy Clifford) in EBBC on 28 November 1993. A day I will always remember! Also, Fred conducted a blelssing in May 2008 within EBBC after my marriage to Laura on 28 March 2008. Another day to remember! Will be sadly missed.

Although I had only occasional contact with Fred through getting to know Hilary where we worked, I remember him as a kindly gentleman who with Hilary served his congregation and his charity for decades, even leading the Baptist movement nationally for a period. He was a soul mate for Hilary, and led a most worthwhile life.

Tribute to Rev. Fred George By Premalal Ukwatte I first met Rev. Fred George at my wedding, having married his niece. At the time, I was serving as President of the Baptist Young People’s Auxiliary. In 1988, I had the privilege of attending the Baptist World Youth Conference in Glasgow, Scotland. Following the conference, I stayed at his home in Barnet, visited his church, and witnessed firsthand the many social service projects he was passionately involved in. Inspired by his example and driven by my own desire to serve God, I hoped to initiate similar projects in Sri Lanka. A decade later, in 1998, Rev. Fred launched a project to provide shelter for children in Sri Lanka. He entrusted me with the responsibility of managing the Home in Tangalle, in the southern part of the country. I was able to carry out this mission in alignment with his vision—largely because he placed his trust in my abilities and commitment. Following the devastating tsunami in Sri Lanka, Rev. Fred became deeply involved in relief efforts. Together, we supported families who had lost everything—homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. Through his leadership, we helped many rebuild their lives by donating equipment for self-employment and small businesses. I had the honor of traveling with him across Sri Lanka, including to areas ravaged by civil war. We passed through countless military checkpoints, bringing aid and comfort to children affected by the conflict. His courage and compassion knew no bounds. Next to my parents, Rev. Fred was the person I respected most in my life. His passing leaves a deep void, but I rejoice in the hope of meeting him again in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

So many memories of Fred. His sermons were intelligent and delivered with empathy and humour. He was truly a remarkable man and servant of God who understood people and travelled through life sharing his wisdom and understanding.
