Douglas Hiller

Doug passed away May 12, 2017 after a brief illness. Born on January 17, 1957 in Grosse Pointe to the late Melvin and Bernadette Hiller, Doug attended De La Salle Collegiate High School (Class of 1975). After owning his own business, Doug entered into the electrical trade in 1990, enjoying a long and successful career that ultimately lead to his role as Field Superintendent at Motor City Electric Company. He enjoyed nothing more than spending his free time up north, especially at his hunting camp in the eastern Upper Peninsula. Doug was the proud father of his three sons, Anthony Douglas, Matthew John, and Timothy Robert – raising them with his best friend and former wife, Linda Hiller. He is survived by his siblings David (Janice), Kathleen (Kirk) Starkey, Patricia (Jon Belanger), and Donald (Teresa). He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel, in 2006. Doug was the adored uncle of eight nieces and nephews and fifteen great-nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by extended family, coworkers, and close friends whom he loved dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Douglas R. Hiller to the Make-A-Wish Foundation Michigan Chapter or the De La Salle Tuition Assistance Fund.

My heart goes out to Linda, their boys and all of Doug’s family & friends. I am honored to remember Doug as a close friend, co-worker at Hudson’s, he helped me get that job, and of course as a DLS Pilot ‘75. Doug was so talented, he was terrific in class plays, personable and a leader. Miss you Doug!

My deepest condolences to all of Doug's family and friends. I worked with Doug as a site superintendent at Water Works Park a number of years ago and never forgot what a great person he was to know and work with. A few years after I left that project and needed a well respected reference from an electrical contractor to change companies, I called Doug and without hesitation, he said "sure Jimmy, I'd be glad to help." Now retired, and having been in the building trades for nearly 50 years, I know that in the end, you can only put a small handful of coworkers on the top shelf of people you know that were of Doug's caliber. I'm very proud to have known him and very sad to here of his passing.

I was so lucky to have had Doug in my life, such a caring wonderful man, best Dad anyone could ask for and a wonderful person. We all cared about him so much.
