Darren started with SLC as an agency member of staff before moving to a full-time contract on 1 October 2009. Darren initially worked in the Pre assessment (Evidence Validation) team before moving to the Postgraduate Loan (PGL) team in April 2021, where he was a valued member of the team. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with him.

Although I never worked directly with Darren I remember out conversations and I can still hear him saying my name asking how I was etc. He was a great guy and will be missed by all who knew him. Such a sad loss.

Still can't really believe it. Daz was a proper one off. Loved a bet, loved his sport but he loved his family most of all. He wasn't shy in speaking his mind but he always treated everyone with respect, even if they didn't see eye to eye. A true gentleman. He was always quick with a joke and was full of swagger but he always took the time to ask how you were, how your family were and took a genuine interest. He was a dad, he looked after people. He was one of the good guys. I'll be raising a pint to you very soon mate. Semi Pro, baby!

Totally gutted about this dreadful news. I would have preferred to be saying some of this on what would have been his up and coming retirement next month, than in these awful circumstances instead. I just want to thank you Daz for being a great friend for all these years, you were the first person on ROW ID to make me feel welcome on the team. I thoroughly enjoyed the laughs we had in the office as well as when we went for a drink after work. Memories I will cherish forever. You always asked how I was, gave me the time of day as well as advice if I needed any help, which I appreciated greatly. My condolences go out to his family and close friends, I hope you all find strength and solace at this very sad time. Going to miss you terribly Semi Pro, it was an honour as well as a privilege to know you. You truly were a prince among men. SLC will be a poorer place without you. Rest easy mate ♡
