Clare Goater

We valued Clare's contribution to Transition Tavistock's activities. She played a significant part in the design of our Walkable Tavistock map, suggesting ways to mark which traffic free paths are suitable for wheelchair users. She joined our walking entry in Tavistock Carnival several times, sporting butterfly wings or a lorax costume and carrying the spare props. We miss her energy.

It’s been a privilege to know Clare for a number of years, first as a fellow passenger with mobility limitations, on thue bus from the George Park & Ride to Town. She also demonstrated to me how she transferred from her car to the bus so effectively. Later, she became a fellow trustee of Plymouth Area Disability Action Network and made a valuable contribution to the operation of that charity over a number of years. She was a very dear friend and her cheerful character, sense of humour and the contribution she made to PADAN will be sadly missed.

We remember Clare from PADAN meetings. Recently we saw Clare at the disabled bowls at the life centre. Always had a smile and a few words to say.I still wonder today what Clare had in the many bags attached to her wheelchair. God bless.

Clare was my first ever girlfriend after the day I was born we were together for around 3 and a half months she was so caring and always happy she never once had a sad face we were going to be together for ever she never let anything/anyone stand in her way she was so strong and very loving let your spirits be free love you

I met Clare about 10 years ago, probably at PADAN meetings. We used to get together every month when she came into town or got together to go to a craft fair. She always had a smile and a wicked sense of humour. I don't think she ever stopped moving, always up to something. She liked a variety of crafts and was always looking for solutions to problems instead of letting problems restrict her. We even managed to get her into my flat once, which was something to see. Some things worked better than othersbut it was always fun having a go. She joined my knit and natter group a while back and always brought a ray of sunshine. She will definately be missednby anyone she touched. Be free Claire, you will be missed.
