Geoff was a great supporter of Woman’s Rugby and visited us on numerous occasions over the 25years of Women’s rugby union at Leigh RUFC To keep us in line but mainly to make sure the game was safe and enjoyable. Not sure when this photo was taken but if has to be one of the last games he refereed for us. He was always a pleasure to talk to and share a drink with after the game. A true gentleman and will be missed.
I consider myself fortunate to have been introduced to Toc H by Jack Rawson back in the 70s, and to have met some wonderful people as a consequence. Geoff was was of these, and to my mind, he joins the long list of Toc H greats it’s been my privilege to have known. Thanks for the memories, Geoff.
Geoff was a great help and support during my early years as a Society member and referee. His observations were always supportive and constructive. He was very adept at moving me (sometimes at short notice) to fixtures which accommodated a sudden change of plans. I refereed a couple of Ladies' matches at TocH and h e would always refer to me as 'Mr Beveridge' in the company of the players. He was hugely proud of the link between Didsbury Toc H and its famous, Belgian counterpart. A lovely man and a great rugby man who will be missed by the Society and the game in the North West. Mass will be offered for his intention at the Cathedral here in Lancaster. Requisicat in Pace.
Geoff, the man, the myth the LEGEND!! You certainly made our Sunday fixtures one to remember, you were brilliant on and off the field, I don't think any referee commanded a certain few players like you!! I was always grateful for your ear and experience on and off the pitch, usually in major panic that a ref had cried off! You were an absolute true gent, and always kept in touch to check I was ok after my injury, I was so thankful for that. Thank you for all your contributions and your genuine warm heart! You will absolutely be missed by one and all!
Dennis and I have known Geoff on and off for the past 50 years. I was a work colleague at ICI for a few years but we became friends when Dennis took up Windsurfing and joined the Icicals Windsurfing Section. We had many fun weekends away windsurfing all over the country staying in tents, although I recall Geoff and his wife Lyn preferred the local B & B! A few years down the line and Dennis took up golf. This renewed our friendship as Dennis and Geoff were both members of Macclesfield Golf Club and the Hawkestone Golf Society. Dennis and Geoff enjoyed many trips away with the society travelling together and sharing accommodation which was now more substantial than a tent! We were pleased to welcome Geoff for many stays at our home in Spain, when he could fit it in around his many Rugby commitments. We will always remember Geoff as a true gentleman and good friend and not a bad cook. RIP Geoff, you will be missed.
Geoff was a friend of my Dad, Brian Leigh , and remember him well from the MADREFs AGM at Wigan RUFC where he enjoyed the steak pie , but only a small portion ! and used to reminisce with me about my Dad , he was always a true gentleman and am so sad to hear about his death. My condolences to his family.. Was sad that the AGM was cancelled last year because of the Lockdown as always used to look forward to seeing him
I'm going to miss our chats on the sidelines, whilst watching our beloved Toc. I'm glad we got to celebrate your contribution to the the club one last time.

I became closely acquainted with Geoff a couple of years after joining the Manchester Referees Society in 2005 when we were 'researching' an IT solution for our then cumbersome appointments process - although that work came to nought it did lay the foundation for what is a truly streamlined process today. Appointments were by committee and monthly meetings at Whelley Labour Club (yes we certainly knew how to live in those days). These meetings were detailed and laborious but made worthwhile by the fresh Wigan pies plied the committee by redoubtable resident of the parish and another Society stalwart, Colin Durkin (a contemporary of Geoff); Geoff remained actively involved with Appointments and Re-appointments until 2020 - another example of his selfless service and administration to the Society. A gentle, unimposing person who always had time for each and every member yet he possessed a covert and sharp humour, making quips during conversation that often went unnoticed by many not attuned to his wry asides. Always willing to put on a pair of boots at short notice he was the go-to guy at 11.15 on a Sunday morning. A great and very sad loss to the Society, I will miss our frequent chats, his sound advice and good company.
