Posted on behalf of Elizabeth Ralph: In loving memory of my dear brother Stan, who was always kind, considerate, helpful and caring. With love from your sister Liz.
I have very fond memories of Uncle Stan, especially of the holiday Jane, Tim and I enjoyed with him and Auntie Mary, plus Helen and Jo. I think of that week as being full of sunshine, laughter and fun. it was very noble of Stan and Mary to take on three extra children for a week!! Stan was very caring and was concerned for my welfare while Mum and Dad were in Zambia when I was in my teens. He checked up on me to make sure that I was alright. I think of him and his cheery smile with much fondness. He will be missed. With much love, Jackie xx
I have very happy memories of times spent with Uncle Stan and Aunty Mary on visits firstly to Norwich as a child, then later to Tyrells Close and finally to Woodbridge. Uncle Stan was a gracious and kind man whose ever-present smile was accompanied by a gentle, understated and often slightly cheeky wit. He will be remembered with great fondness by everyone who was privileged to know him. To Helen, Jo and Mark - our thoughts are with you. With much love from Neale, Jane and Alex.
I always think of Uncle Stan with a big smile on his face and indeed, he was very kind and generous because when I was 12, my sister Jackie 9 and my brother Tim 4 we all went to stay with him, Auntie Mary, Helen and Jo while our parents swannied off to Italy on holiday! We had a lovely time often going out for the day to the beach and other places. I realise now that Uncle Stan must have sacrificed some precious holiday to look after us. I enjoyed it so much that I went back to stay a few months later in the Christmas holidays. Helen, Jo and Mark, I hope that the funeral goes well and that you don't miss him too much. With love from Jane xxxxx
Posted on behalf of Martijn Wilder: As a child growing up on the beach and in the sun in Australia, we often found ourselves visiting the UK at Christmas. I have such fond memories of visiting Woodbridge and seeing all the Christmas lights and cheer - and being amazed by the cold and always hoping it would snow. It was always such an adventure to stay with Mary and Stan and we were always taken such good care of. In later years and when at Cambridge I also had the chance to pop up a few times and again that was wonderful to be there again. Woodbridge and seeing Mary and Stan was our English family and a real connection to where we had all come from. Stan was always gracious and happy and busy running around and will always be remembered by me in that way. It is hard being so far away to really appreciate Stan’s last few years but it is good that he is now at peace. Losing Mary early would have been hard but he had a good life and a wonderful three children left behind. Our thoughts are with you all and within Stan.
To my wonderful cousins Helen, Jo and Mark and to Les, Rick, Sarah, Michael and Luke, Dan and I send our deepest condolences at the passing of Uncle Stan. I have shared some photos of our last visit with Uncle Stan in 2019. Uncle Stan is a part of so many family memories and these will be cherished by us always. We so wish we could be there to hug you all and support you through your grief at this time. Dan and I will raise a glass to Stan on Friday in memory. All our love and hugs, Kate and Dan, Hannah, James and Tom. XOXOXO
I got to know Stan many years ago as the husband of my cousin, Mary, I visited them on a number of occasions at their home in Woodbridge and always enjoyed their company and hospitality. He often had interesting stories about his work and was always engaging. I was able to return Mary and Stan's hospitality when I was working in Cyprus in the mid-1980's and they stayed with my wife, two young sons and me for a holiday, being able to visit many different sights and, I recall, meeting some of my Cypriot friends. He will, I am sure, be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Posted on behalf of Brian and Helen Wilder: I first met Stan when he began courting my sister and I was about 10 years old. I must have been a real pest at that time. I remember hiding in the bushes in Aunt Maud’s house and spying on them! I remember them living in Chelmsford soon after they were married and Stan finished his Army Service and our later visits to their home in Norwich, a town they both loved. We had several enjoyable holidays together in England and later in Australia, one of which was in the tropical north. Helen always had a soft spot for Stan. We hadn’t seen much of Stan in recent years because of the tyranny of distance, but we kept in touch best we could after Mary died. We will miss him. Brian & Helen

Always a pleasure seeing and talking to Uncle Stan at Ralph family occasions. More recently, when Stan would stay over at dad’s after a Caprice concert and I would see him at Sunday lunch, I enjoyed finding out new bits of information about how Chelmsford used to be. A vast mine of information! Stan will be sadly missed.
