Vishna Rasiah

19 juli 1971 - 23 april 2020

Dr Vishna Rasiah, beloved husband, father, brother, son and a well-respected and much-loved colleague at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s, has sadly passed away following treatment for COVID-19. Dr Rasiah, known to all his friends as Vish, was a Consultant Neonatologist at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and was highly-regarded across the Midlands as part of his role as Clinical Lead for the regional Neonatal network. Vish was a proud husband and father. His wife Liza said: “We’re devastated at losing our beloved Vish. He was such a loving husband and father to our beautiful daughter Katelyn, and much loved son and brother to our family in Malaysia and Trinidad. His whole family meant the world to him, and he absolutely doted on Katelyn. Vish loved his work; to him it was so much more than a job and his colleagues are part of our family too. He treated every patient and family he cared for as his own; I couldn’t have been prouder of him. I would like to thank the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital for the kindness, compassion and the care that they have provided to us over an incredibly difficult past few weeks.”

Dear Liza and Katelyn. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and heartache that you will be feeling right now but I hope that in time reading all these messages will convey what a wonderful, kind, caring and irreplaceable man your Vish truly was. It is so unfair that he has been taken too soon and I hope he knew how highly regarded he really was. He always talked so fondly of his family and was devoted to you Katelyn, you were both his world. Vish will always be remembered by me as he was not only a colleague but an amazing doctor who looked after my own little boy who was born at just 28 weeks last year. He treated Thomas, like all the other babies he cared for, as his own and we will be eternally grateful for everything he did for us during this time. His legacy will be long lived in all those babies whose journeys he has played a part. Vish, we have lost a true hero but heaven has gained a new bright star. Shine bright and keep taking pictures 'boss' so that you can share your new memories when we meet again. Louise (Neonatal Pharmacist), Mark, Sophia and Thomas xxx
