Vishna Rasiah

19 juli 1971 - 23 april 2020

Dr Vishna Rasiah, beloved husband, father, brother, son and a well-respected and much-loved colleague at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s, has sadly passed away following treatment for COVID-19. Dr Rasiah, known to all his friends as Vish, was a Consultant Neonatologist at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and was highly-regarded across the Midlands as part of his role as Clinical Lead for the regional Neonatal network. Vish was a proud husband and father. His wife Liza said: “We’re devastated at losing our beloved Vish. He was such a loving husband and father to our beautiful daughter Katelyn, and much loved son and brother to our family in Malaysia and Trinidad. His whole family meant the world to him, and he absolutely doted on Katelyn. Vish loved his work; to him it was so much more than a job and his colleagues are part of our family too. He treated every patient and family he cared for as his own; I couldn’t have been prouder of him. I would like to thank the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital for the kindness, compassion and the care that they have provided to us over an incredibly difficult past few weeks.”

Dear Liza and Katelyn An inspiring mentor, an incredible teacher, a neonatologist par excellence, a leader who truly led by example, a doting father and above all one of the kindest people I’ve known, words fail me to describe a man who was my “guru”. Every time I didn’t know what to do, he always knew what was best for me and all he would say was, “Boss, you know what to do.” We shared many stories about how we met our better halves and every time he spoke about you Liza, love shone through his eyes and his smile like I hadn’t known before. His love for capturing every moment in a photograph, his enthusiasm and compassion to help those tiny babies and their families, his calm demeanour were extraordinary. I wouldn’t have been a Neonatologist if it wasn’t for him guiding me and supporting me. Katelyn – Your daddy loved you so dearly and I am sure you are very proud of him. He taught me many things but the most important thing he taught me was how to be a better human being. He has left an irreplaceable void in our lives but will live in our hearts forever. Vish, may you keep smiling in the heavens above. Until we meet again, Rest in peace Boss.
