Vishna Rasiah

19 juli 1971 - 23 april 2020

Dr Vishna Rasiah, beloved husband, father, brother, son and a well-respected and much-loved colleague at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s, has sadly passed away following treatment for COVID-19. Dr Rasiah, known to all his friends as Vish, was a Consultant Neonatologist at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and was highly-regarded across the Midlands as part of his role as Clinical Lead for the regional Neonatal network. Vish was a proud husband and father. His wife Liza said: “We’re devastated at losing our beloved Vish. He was such a loving husband and father to our beautiful daughter Katelyn, and much loved son and brother to our family in Malaysia and Trinidad. His whole family meant the world to him, and he absolutely doted on Katelyn. Vish loved his work; to him it was so much more than a job and his colleagues are part of our family too. He treated every patient and family he cared for as his own; I couldn’t have been prouder of him. I would like to thank the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital for the kindness, compassion and the care that they have provided to us over an incredibly difficult past few weeks.”

Deepest condolences to Vish’s family. I am a fairly new nurse, started on the unit about 1.5 years ago but even after such a short amount of time, I can still wholeheartedly speak of what a wonderful man he was. My first impression of Vish was that he was kind, he made me feel like i mattered and was integral to the team. And he listened. Vish made sure everyone’s voice was heard, he took our opinions and thoughts seriously. He was compassionate, friendly, the one who would make an effort to talk to you! I remember him in the break room once, I was still quite new and another colleague was present and he was just cracking jokes with us and I think of that as a wonderful memory to keep. He made effort with you and made you feel like part of the team. Liza and dear Katelyn, my thoughts are with you both.
