Vishna Rasiah

19 juli 1971 - 23 april 2020

Dr Vishna Rasiah, beloved husband, father, brother, son and a well-respected and much-loved colleague at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s, has sadly passed away following treatment for COVID-19. Dr Rasiah, known to all his friends as Vish, was a Consultant Neonatologist at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and was highly-regarded across the Midlands as part of his role as Clinical Lead for the regional Neonatal network. Vish was a proud husband and father. His wife Liza said: “We’re devastated at losing our beloved Vish. He was such a loving husband and father to our beautiful daughter Katelyn, and much loved son and brother to our family in Malaysia and Trinidad. His whole family meant the world to him, and he absolutely doted on Katelyn. Vish loved his work; to him it was so much more than a job and his colleagues are part of our family too. He treated every patient and family he cared for as his own; I couldn’t have been prouder of him. I would like to thank the staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital for the kindness, compassion and the care that they have provided to us over an incredibly difficult past few weeks.”

Dear Liza and Katelyn, Words cannot describe the void we feel upon the loss of Vish. He was not only a brilliant, caring and compassionate doctor and a true friend, but also an excellent mentor and an advocate for neonatal care. Looking after families, trainees and colleagues was always a priority for him. I will always remember a teaching session when we discussed the qualities that make a good paediatrician. All he said was “You just need to have a good heart, boss.” So true, and so genuine from the man who had the biggest, most loving heart. The standards he set for all of us on a professional and personal level will be difficult to meet, but we will try our best, in remembrance of his legacy. We miss him terribly. We keep you and the rest of his family in our thoughts and prayers. Big hugs and love, Gergely
