Oh, what a day she chose to depart! And she did tell us before leaving that was waiting to see this day in Indian Parliament. इच्छामृत्यु शायद इसी को बोलते हैं.
She was filling the void, all her life. Be it George Sahab's legal counsel, spokesperson of party with the difference, diplomatic avenues during both NDA periods, daring political moves in Karnataka & Delhi, defining Indian secularism from opposition benches or voice of India in United Nations. She spoke what we wanted a fierce leader to speak, she did what we wanted a people's leader to do.
She was the face of Indian opposition in between of Atal and Modi governments. During 2004-14 period, session by session in Parliament, she kept us reminding that India deserved better.
If one has to learn something from her, it is when not to speak. Despite being a prolific orator all her political career, she chose not to speak politics in public after becoming EAM in 2014. Her job was different, taking India to the world and bring world closer to India. When many in the world do not have much trust on their governments, she made it possible for Indians to believe that country stands firmly behind, wherever they are.
It will take some time to sink in that you are not with us anymore, Mother India! विनम्र श्रंद्धाजलि!
