Paul Gitau Kihiu was born in Nairobi on the 18th of August 1973 to Daniel Kihiu and Esther Kihiu. He was the 4th born and had 4 sisters: Michele, Rose, Sophie and Grace.
Paul married Margaret on 20th November 2004, in a colourful ceremony where his love for his wife was evident. He was one of the few men who shed a tear of emotion on their wedding day. Together they were blessed with two children namely Daniel and Selah.
The joy of the Lord is my strength ~Nehemiah 8:10b
Paul loved this verse and would often quote it. In happy times and in sad times.
Paul's faith was of extra-large proportions. And, as such, he partook of life in large doses. He was a larger than life character.
Whenever he came into a room, it lit up. He had a bright energetic presence. Yet he was also laid-back and easy-going, and took life in manageable chunks.
He was an encourager. One often heard "Good stuff!" from him - one of his favourite phrases. He was full of jokes. He was fun to be around. He laughed out loud, hearty and full laughter. So many happy memories come to mind.
He was tactful and diplomatic, yet he also addressed things at their core when needed. Paul was extremely loyal. Extremely. His family always felt like he had them covered.
Paul was active and engaged. He cared about people deeply. When he expressed his appreciation, he did so thoughtfully. For example, for his Mom's 75th birthday, he gave a PowerPoint presentation - well-laid out, in full colour.
Yet the most outstanding quality about Paul was his generosity. He gave: of his time, energy, knowledge, wisdom. We always knew this, but each experienced it personally when we went through our own difficult seasons. He had a way of gently prodding to find out exactly what you needed, and then looking to help in exactly that manner - whatever it was.
And, because Paul was a man of faith, we are sure we will meet him in heaven one day. His joyful countenance made him at home in heaven right away, and now he is free of pain.
