I was so sorry to hear of John’s passing. He was my first head of department when I joined Capsticks as a trainee and always stopped for a chat when I saw him after qualifying. I organised the department Christmas party as a trainee in Dispute Resolution and remember his look of slight alarm at the number of shots being ordered towards the end of the night (he politely declined the offer of one personally)! Incidentally a good friend of mine was also form tutor / housemistress to Joe, Martha and Harry at St John’s and when we spoke of this shared connection it was clear how proud John was of his children. He was an extremely kind man, a steady presence for those he worked with and will be hugely missed by everyone at Capsticks. Sending my best wishes to his family and friends at such a difficult time.

John was the first partner I met when I started at Capsticks. He was so welcoming and kind. It was this first impression that made me realise that Capsticks was a pretty special firm. I didn't work with John too often but every encounter with him was a pleasure. Our contact was mostly a goodnight chat every day as he walked past my desk on the way to the car park. A real gentleman, so courteous and respectful. I've thought of him and his family every day since I heard the sad news.
