Jim Gillies

25 juni 1969 - 13 november 2021

Our friend and colleague, Jim Gillies, passed away at home on Saturday the 13th of November after a long battle with cancer. Jim has been part of SLC for over 16 years working in many teams including FE, DSA, BCF and, for the last 6 years, the Assess Platform. Jim has had a huge influence in all the teams he's worked in, but more importantly he has left a positive lasting impression on so many people he worked with. His loss will be felt much more widely than the Assess Platform and he will be missed by many within SLC. Jim is survived by his wife Aileen and daughter Emma and our thoughts go out to them at this time.

Jim and I started at SLC as developers at the same time on the same team in 2005, and I worked with him at various pointed throughout those years. He had a unique combination of a very kind heart and also a cutting sharp wit. He was so clever and curious, always wanting to learn and such a cheery person no matter the pressure or mood in the team. We were both amused when his daughter Emma was born on the same day as my birthday, and he would mention it on the run-up to the date each year, always excited about what was planned for Emma's birthday. His family brought him such joy, my thoughts are with them xx
