This is a tribute to Craig Prior, an awesome teacher and colleague who passed away too soon. Craig was a passionate and charismatic individual, his humour brightening both the classroom and the staffroom. Always happy and always smiling. A very proud family man; husband to Emily and father to his two sons, Harry and Thomas. He loved the outdoors and spent many an afternoon kicking a football or playing frisbee with his beloved boys. Craig was a passionate triathlete and completed multiple Ironman events around the world. He once described himself as a PE teacher trapped inside a Maths teacher’s body. He was very proud of his Yorkshire roots. Yorkshire tea bags were compulsory in the Maths staffroom and he loved Sheffield Wednesday football club and the colour blue! Craig was an awesome Maths teacher, following a successful career in the corporate world. Those that were lucky enough to be taught by him might recall his aim to make lessons interesting and exciting with his humour, for example brightening up a Zoom call during online learning with a wig or simulating an aircraft flight. Always wearing a shirt and tie and willing to give everything to help his students. He will be missed by the whole Killarney school community. The best teacher, colleague and friend anyone could ask for.

Craig was the best teacher anyone could’ve had. Always making jokes and helping us with our struggles in maths. He was seriously the nicest and most genuine teacher I’ve had throughout all of school. Always asking how we were going and keeping up with us even outside of class. He made school so much fun and always made me feel supported. His daily inspirational quotes and zoom outfits got my advanced class through year 12 so for that thank you so much craig. Thanks for everything Mr prior, you are so missed already

Mr Prior was a great teacher, and I enjoyed having him as my maths teacher this year. He always tried to make the lessons fun with jokes and to make maths more fun. When I had questions, he always explained it better than my parents could. He was always so lively and cheerful. I miss him and I was upset when I found out he passed away. From Georgia

My son Max whom Craig fondly nicknamed ‘Echidna’ was fortunate to have Mr Prior as his favorite teacher and mentor for the past 3 years. Craig appreciated Echidna’s crazy hair (hence the nickname), was patient when he stuck his nose into other things and gently guided him back when he could see him ambling towards the highway. Craig’s ability to capture my meandering Echidna’s attention with his ever present smile, caring demeanor and jovial humor will greatly be missed by both of us. Craig I spoke to you about your passion for teaching, a profession you came to later in life out of a desire to make the world a better place and I conveyed to you my gratitude for your choice. I made an effort to email you on World Teachers Day last year, to which you replied “Thank you…that means a lot!” but I am not sure if you ever fully understood the love and admiration your students had for you. I wish you could still be here smiling out from underneath your Vanessa Amorosi cap that Echidna gave you, may you continue to be ever present in our thoughts and prayers as we picture you wearing it proudly whilst reciting your latest Dad joke. Your time with us may have been short but your profound impact will be everlasting.

Mr Prior was one of my favourite teachers. He would never miss an opportunity to crack one of his infamous dad jokes making everyone smile , if not from the dad joke from the proud grin he wore after cracking it. He was one of the most caring, supportive, funny, inspiring and passionate teachers that I know and always made a subject that would normally be boring that much more fun. He was always willing to help, encouraging you to ask questions. He would offer his spare time at lunches to me and my friends if we needed further help outside of class. He loved learning about his students and their passions, trying to create a relationship with each and every one of us. He knew how much I loved athletics and would never miss a chance to create a math problem surrounding me and athletics or ask me about any upcoming comps I may be competing in. He always made his expectations and standards heard and was always ready to praise those that succeeded but was also never afraid to tell you that he thought you could do better (in a nice way). He would always believe in you and shared how much potential he thought you had. One of my favourite things about Mr Prior was how comfortable he would make you feel in the classroom - comfortable to ask question, comfortable to get questions wrong and how much confidence he had in all of his students. Thank you for everything you have done for me Mr Prior, you will be missed by me and everyone who had the privilege of meeting you.

As a student of Mr Prior, I can say that he was an amazing teacher. He explained everything very thoroughly and in a way that was very interesting. He made the exercises interesting and especially because he always added funny jokes. I will always remember Mr prior.

Craig and I met when he was my boss in London in 2004. I had moved from Australia the year before and he was my first real boss, he quickly became something of a mentor. We connected well and have been great friends ever since. My favourite workplace memory of him was when he bought a pink magic fairy wand. Each Monday morning, he would pick someone in the team who had screwed up in the previous week and present them with the wand. He said it was to show that we had ‘a visit from the ‘F***Up’ fairy’

Regardless of whether you were Mr Prior's student or colleague, I'm certain everyone would agree that he was not only an awesome teacher but a top bloke above all. No matter the situation, he always had time to stop and have a chat with me which I valued highly. He always gave great advice and made funny jokes. There were times where I'd forget he was a teacher and think of him as one of the boys. The school won't be the same without him and I will miss him heaps.

I had Mr Prior for both Year 9 and 10 and he was always such a great teacher that made me enjoy going to maths. He would always wave and have something nice to say or a dad joke when I saw him around school. In the classroom, he would answer everyone’s questions and went over every step until we understood, which helped a lot. Mr Prior also made online school so much better as I looked forward to seeing him and his funny costumes and wigs he would always put on to try and put a smile on our faces. I will miss seeing him around and I am very grateful for Mr Prior and the two years I had him.

Mr Prior’s son(s) did swimming at the same time as my daughter. He also taught her in Math last year. Often we would sit together and chat during the lesson. What I noticed immediately was how friendly and open he was. Sometimes there is awkwardness between strangers but Craig was at ease. We chatted about British television shows growing up and the Yorkshire Dales. He was just a kind and friendly person and I always enjoyed seeing him. I was good friend of Craig’s from the Tri club Craig was one of those glue guys. Everyone liked him, everyone wanted to chat with him, and people liked hanging around if he was around. If Craig was around, people stuck together. If Craig was around, people were happy, and people were chatting. He was a super popular guy. He often didn’t realise he had that special gift that only some people have, that people really wanted to hang out with him. He was also MR dependable. The great thing about Craig is you knew when you went for a ride on Saturday morning Craig was going to be there. You knew you could come out on a Saturday morning ride and you could have a good old yarn to Craig on the way round. It didn’t matter if it was cold or rainy, or going to be hot, or it was Covid restrictions, Craig would be out. I am pretty sure over the 7 years I have known Craig, he would have averaged 48/52 weekend rides every year I knew him. You also know you were going to get a chat about an old Sheffield Wednesday story, and you might of heard it before, but that didn’t matter, it was always good to hear all of Craig’s old stories. The only weekends he pretty much didn’t ride with the club were ironman weekend in early May when he was riding anyway and early January when he was down in Thredbo with the family. He also loved his traditions, and he loved the traditional Wisemans ferry ride the month before ironman. That 180k – 200k ride is an absolute beast and he loved when all of the guys were riding with him, all in pain while we were training together. That ride we all did back in 2018 was lots of fun when Biggles smashed it off the front for 50k’s. He often talked about that ride. I also remember back in 2016 for some reason no one could come with him on that stupid big Wisemans ride, and he was pumped for it before Port. I said I would come with him but my fitness was absolutely shot. So I organised for Miah(my wife) to go down to her parents for lunch at Brooklyn and I would only do the 150k. I remember holding onto his wheel for 150k and I didn't tell him that I had a pre-planned bail option. He gave it to me for months / years for being soft and bailing out, but deep down I knew he liked having the company for the ride. Talking about triathlon Craig is a amazing. 12 full ironmans and has been on a constant improvement the older he has got. When I first met Craig he was coming off back to back 14-hour ironmans. The first traiathlon I did with Craig was 2015 Batemans Bay Half. It was a tough course but he did a 5.47 and just happy to go around and have some friends down there myself, Simon and Freddie and also have the family down there as well. From that moment though Craig was an absolute inspiration for middle age triathletes like myself as he just kept getting fitter and tougher and kept making massive improvements in his training and racing every year. From back to back 14hr Ironman’s Craig went 2016 11.42 2017 11.24 2018 10.55 and 10.47 at Busso (the double sub 11) 2019 11.05 in very tough and windy conditions Craig just kept on getting better the older he got. 2019 Port Ironman was lots of fun, with Ian, Biggles, Foz, Mark, Danielle, Jono and Jason. I was hanging out the back at the start and I still remember Craig pulling me up the front to start just behind the pro’s with him, Foz and Mark, he was so excited to get cracking. It was also great fun as well the next morning all having breakfast talking smack, about how good we all were. I had to borrow his wetsuit as well for that race, as I forgot to pack mine. He came over the night before to lend me his. They were good times. Craig also loved the NSTC club Palm Beach to Manly Beach pre Christmas duathlon. 32k’s of running and 4 k’s of swimming and he would get excited every year with the rest of us. It is such a painful day in such a Beautiful setting. I have done it Craig I think 5 times now and they have always been such enjoyable days. Talking crap whilst suffering and always enjoying a beer at the end and doing something fun coming into Xmas. Out of triathlon Craig was a success at PWC then, when he changed careers to teaching he was an absolute success at teaching. In his second year teaching maths, he got his advanced maths class up to be the highest ranking non-selective public school maths class in the state. That was a pretty bloody good effort for someone in just their second year of teaching. He bought his triathlon attitude of hard work into the classroom and got all of his kids working hard and getting results He also really enjoyed taking the kids out for sport coaching the 1st 11 cricket and soccer teams, and taking them out mountain biking. It is such a shame he is gone, and also such a shame he won't get to see his boys grow up, whom he really loved. I am just really happy I got to spend time training and doing triathlon and being a friend with such a quality bloke for all these years. Special blokes like Craig don’t just come around that often. So cheers to Craig

As a student of Mr. Prior, I'm sure I speak on behalf of all he taught in saying that he was a man of high achievement. In all he pursued; his corporate career, his love for triathlons, and most of all, teaching, Mr. Prior's passion, positive mentality and ability to put a smile on any face will be missed dearly. As hard as it is to teach Mathematics, Mr Prior's wit, charisma and overall energy created an enjoyable learning environment - one which changed my attitude toward the subject that I now enjoy. Mr. Prior's passing will definitely be a difficult pill to swallow for his students, colleagues and most importantly family, however this tragedy has taught me an important life lesson - tomorrow is not promised. The sudden passing of such a loved figure in the community just goes to show how precious life really is. To many, including myself, Mr Prior was more than a teacher - he was a football coach with a strong passion for his local club Sheffield Wednesday, a father of two kids whom he raved about during lunchtime duties, and a great friend to my peers and I, always happy to stay after class to discuss our plans for the holidays or our predictions for weekend football games. To Mr Prior's family, know that he is still here in spirit, and that he wants you to stay strong in his name. Craig Prior, you were such an inspiration to all you shared a classroom and staffroom with. You truly lived life to the fullest and left a legacy of compassion, hard work and generosity. The world needs more people like you. Reading through the comments left by all his students and friends, I’m not alone in saying what an outstanding person you were. Let you rest in peace, knowing the impact you’ve had on everyone you shared life with. You will not be forgotten.

Mr. Prior was my teacher and mentor in both years 11 and 12. I was intrigued entering his classroom on the first day of teaching as he taught my friends the year before and they really hyped him up, lets just say I was far from disappointed. In the span of 2 years I became very close to Mr. Prior, he made a typically tiresome and boring subject a joy to attend. The banter he had with me and my friends was unmatched with any teacher I had ever had, in fact, we more considered him to be a friend than a teacher. He had a tendency to be brutally honest with you about your learning outcomes, a sincerity that stung when you failed but felt very fulfilling when you succeeded. The main thing that stuck with me about Mr. Prior was his desire to help, he would help you work through a tough question not matter how long it took. On the last Friday before his passing he stayed back 20 minutes with me after school, taking time out of his day that he could have been spending with his family or friends to help me, I was probably the last student he talked to and I feel truly blessed that I was able to share that time with him when so many others wished they could have. Rest In Peace Sir, your memory will never be forgotten

Mr Prior taught me in year 10 and without a doubt, it was the most fun I'd ever had in maths, I was genuinely excited to have maths each week and every lesson sir would come up with a creative way to keep us engaged. Mr Prior was the only teacher who actually understood how I learnt and would spend so much time re-explaining things to me over and over again and would never get frustrated. We all knew he was concentrated when he would start sticking his tongue out whilst trying to do an equation. Even though I didn't have sir this year he would still make sure to ask me how I was every time I saw him, he taught me that life really does have a meaning, and there's no point wasting it. Every time I saw him around the school I would constantly ask to be let back into his class and he would always say no and it became a running joke we would have every time we saw one another. My thoughts go out to everybody effect by this tragic event and I hope everybody is holding up after losing such an amazing human being. Fly high sir you will be dearly missed by all.

In the two terms that I knew Mr Prior he had always tried his very best in every lesson to teach us in software and I was beyond devastated when I had heard the news of his sudden passing. I am especially thankful for his efforts at the beginning of the year to help me fit in with his maths class as I was unfamiliar with my new classmates. Mr Prior taught me in year 10 and year 11, There was never a dull moment in any math class since he started teaching me. Every class was filled with laughter because of all the jokes and banter. I am devastated that we have all lost such a wonderful person. Besides all the jokes, he would always take time out of his day to check up on me and my well-being. I am so appreciative for everything he has done for me and my heart is with his family. He was the only math teacher I’ve had in all my years of school who has recognised and made me aware that he knew I needed additional help in math, he’d always make sure I clearly understood the work and checked up on me in his personal time to see how I was travelling. There’s a lot of memories that myself and many others in the class share. He was absolutely hilarious and never failed to make me smile and laugh. I always looked forward to math just because he was my teacher. Every class he’d greet me with “hello Ms Ryan” or “Ms Ryan, how are we today?”. During online this term he still never failed to make it entertaining. He would act like a flight attendant and give us an introduction into the lesson. There was no such thing as a boring moment with Mr Prior. It is so heartbreaking knowing and having to accept that he has passed, he was a great person and teacher and no doubt friend, husband and father. I had the pleasure to meet him and have a friendship with him. My heart is with all his loved ones, thank you Mr Prior for being great to me and everyone else. We all miss you.

I had Mr Prior this year for two terms and two weeks and without a doubt every single lesson he would ask how I was doing. Mr prior really was the first maths teacher to actually understand how I worked and would explain the content in any possible way just to make sure I understood. He taught me how to pay taxes and read linear relationships but most importantly he showed me how to believe in myself and achieve goals which I will forever be thankful. Mr prior was one of those teachers that you could tell was meant to be a high school maths teacher and that he enjoyed his job so much, he was incredibly funny and would engage in friendly bickering and joking with the students which I’m sure they all appreciated. On the last day I had maths with him he checked up on me as he thought I was unusually quiet which I will forever remember and I will always be thankful for Mr prior and I send my condolences and thoughts to his family. Rest In Peace Mr Prior.

I loved having Mr Prior for Years 9 and 10 math, I always looked forward to each lesson as Sir never failed to ask me “how are we today Lily”. Not only did he take time out of his days to help me individually, but also offered his time to me and my friends during lunch and recess as he really wanted us to understand the content. He was very passionate and wanted us to be as well. He had many motivational quotes, often placed around the classroom, such as “the better we all do, the better we all do” and sometimes he put up videos about motivation from the army. He was a very inspiring and encouraging teacher who often shared stories about his life. He always called my friends angels and joked around, making the classroom feel bright. A couple of times I remember walking around the neighbourhood and hearing a faint hello, then looking up to see Mr Prior happily riding along on his bike. One of my favorite memories with him was at the end of last term when he walked me to class after finding out I was moving schools. He was genuinely interested. The iconic song he played during lockdown, “Pump It Up” will always remind me of him. Thank you Mr Prior.

In the 2 terms that I had Mr prior, it was so awesome. He was one of the only teachers who actually had something special planned for every last day of term. In the first term, our class (7S) we did jeopardy at first I thought it would be about hard yr 9 maths that we didn't know but it totally wasn't, we got to do general knowledge, Tv shows and maths. Our team lost but that was the best part of the entire day. I will try and continue on to remember all that he has taught me and I will at least try to make my handwriting a little bit neater so that other teachers can actually tell what my work means. We will all miss Mr Prior for his fun lessons, his jokes and most importantly his teachings and how they have been passed on through the students that he taught.

Mr Prior was my teacher for a year, and was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. He started the year with motivational quotes and always had the best math jokes and puns during lessons. He always made lessons fun and you could tell how much he cared about his students. He would always check in with you and see how you were doing, and you could always have a conversation with him. He always believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself, and for that I am so grateful. I’ll never forget his end of term jeopardy’ games we’d play, or his amazing dad jokes. Mr Prior made me a better student, and a better person, and I can’t thank him enough for that.

My 2 Terms with Mr Prior were all filled with humour and laughs. He had hilarious dad jokes and was an amazing teacher full of knowledge that he passed on to every student he taught. A note to his family would be: Mr Prior is not fully gone. He still lives inside those that admired and got inspired of him. This loss has touched me very deeply and we will all miss Mr Prior greatly. One of the many jokes he told was this one: "What's the capital of Australia? A." Mr Prior has been my teacher for the past three years, and my mentor for the past two years. Ever since Mr Prior came to Killarney, he always brought a fun and engaging classroom environment, and everyone knew him for his charisma, and his humour. I have always seen, and always will see Mr Prior as a role model, and I'm very grateful for the time we've had together. Mr Prior has encouraged me to be a better student, a better athlete and a better person all round, and I hope one day I can live up to the goals he helped me set. I'll always miss our classes, the football season we had together (which was very successful up until the final), and the times a few of us would stay back after class and talk about what was happening on the weekend, the football or whatever else was going on, it was always nice talking to him like this because he really did care. That was another thing about Mr Prior, he cared, about everyone, not just his "favourite students" or whatever, he always tried his best to help all the students whether they were struggling or not, whether it was with maths, another subject or personal situations. Mr Prior always tried his best to help, and that's extremely admirable. A few of my friends and I actually dressed as Mr Prior for the year 12 photo, we went to see him after the photo was done and he said we did a pretty good job at replicating his signature vest suit look. I just wish we could've got a group photo with him at the time, but I'm really looking forward to getting that photograph and I'm glad it'll be one of the ways I can look back and remember all the good times we had. Mr Prior were one of the few teachers that was loved by all the students (sorry to some of the other teachers that weren't but it's just true). If you brought his name up to anyone in the school, you would not hear a single bad word, because Mr Prior was a great person. He never hurt anyone and he always tried his best to make all the students feel welcomed, valued, and supported. He was a teacher who you forgot was your teacher, everyone just saw Mr Prior as a friend, someone who they could talk to about anything, and someone that was always willing to lend them a hand with whatever they might need. Seeing Mr Prior go is very hard, it hurts a lot. I really hope that his family, friends, colleges and other students are all doing the best they can be in a difficult situation like this and can stay strong for him, it's what he would've wanted. Rest in peace Craig Prior.

Mr. Prior was my math teacher for 2 terms and 2 weeks. For every single moment that i was being taught by him, He made me happy, And inspired me to do my work to the best of my ability, He reminded me every day that life is to short, And I wish that he could've been here with me longer. I am sure me and all of pride club wish we could've been taught by him longer. I am still trying to process my loss, And I hope that others know that they are not in on this alone.

Mr Prior taught me math once a fortnight. He was a kind, smart and patient teacher. I remember I went to my swimming class one day to see that he was there, and his son was in my swimming squad. I remember I kept on staring at him so much, thinking to myself "Is that my math teacher or am I crazy?". So much so that I accidentally bumped into his son. I said hi and started talking to him. After this, whenever I would see him in the hallway he would always greet me and ask me how my day was. Whenever I went to swimming classes he would do the same and either cheer me on with his son or chat to my mum. In class he would always help me with questions I did not understand with his calm manner. I miss him a lot and he always brought a smile to my face. Thank you, sir.

My brother remembers In year 7 at the first end of term party with him, Mr Prior and the class played jeopardy. I remember when he told us his favourite song. He didn't know the name, just that the chorus went "its all about the bass, bout that bass". We were all very confused. He then proceeded to explain the joke. "When calculating the area of a triangle, you need to know what the BASE is!" At the end of year 7, after class, he asked me to stay back 5 minutes. He told me that I didn't quite make it into the S or X classes. Then sensing my disappointment, he told me that even though my grades didn't show it, he had put in good word in the Maths staffroom, and that he expected good things. I don't like to think that he will never see those great things. He will be missed

I had sir for one and a bit years. He was an amazing teacher and always tried his best to put a smile on his student's faces. He made it his priority to get to know his students so he could understand what we would like to talk about. He was the kind of teacher that made sure to ask about your day if he saw you around. He was smart, helpful, and very passionate about his role as a teacher. There are two little things that I will always remember Mr. Prior by, one being the two-minute noodle lunches that he always seemed to be finishing whilst we completed our work. Another thing I will remember him by was his tiny little coffee cup that always filled the room with a strong scent of coffee. Mr. Prior was not only an exceptional teacher but he tried his best to be everyone's friend and he will be dearly missed.

I had sir in 2019 and ever since then whenever I would pass through D block me and jack would always go speak to him about anything and he would give me some mints. He is the type of teacher that cares about his job and I know he loved teaching math. He would always have a joke around. Sir recognized peoples potential and helped me pass my first math test. Sir cared so much about his students. I would always go and complain to him about other teachers but he would always back them up and tell me to give them time. Sir is the type of teacher to go above and beyond to make you feel good. Rest in peace sir thanks for making school enjoyable.

In the last week of Term 1, our school participated in the Bill Turner Cup, a soccer competition against other schools for those under the age of 15. Our first game was against Narrabeen Sports High, a school renowned for its students sporting ability. Despite all the team's defeatist mindset, Mr Prior was optimistic and convinced we could win this game. I remember his words exactly "Guys, I know they're a sports school but I've heard they are not too good." The famous last words from Sir, however, it was quite quickly that we realized they were far from "not good". We proceeded to lose 11-1, but of course Mr. Prior was quick to change his previous statement. The bus ride back to school was unsurprisingly filled with jokes and excuses on why we lost from the students and Sir. All in all, it was a day I will never forget thanks to Sir's sense of humour that never seemed to amaze the team and me. I never had Mr Prior as a teacher, my brother in Year 7 had him and said that he was such a funny and relatable teacher that he was more like a father figure than a teacher. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Craig Prior. Gone but not forgotten.
