Chris was a great friend, highly respected across our sector, and just one of the good people. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father to his three children.

On June 16th I was pottering in my garden and a canary (yes, really!) came and sat right by me singing away. I immediately thought of Chris, with affection. I had no idea that he was ill. I first worked alongside Chris when he was a crew commander just at the start of his rise through the ranks and I was impressed by his easy manner and the way he made others feel at ease in his company. He truly was one of the good guys and I was profoundly shocked when I heard of his very untimely passing. My sincere condolences to his wife, children and wider family who face life with a big Chris-shaped hole in it. The world (and the fire service) is a better place for him having been here and I feel privileged to have known him.
