Lorna suddenly passed away peacefully on Wednesday 22nd September aged just 60. We will all remember Lorna for her kindness, thoughtfulness and the passion she had for making people’s lives better which she shared with us all. Lorna had a love for cooking, travelling, socialising and wildlife. Lorna would often share photos taken by her husband David of local wildlife at her home (Friday Special). Lorna worked with Falkirk Council for over 39 years she was a respected, knowledgeable and highly valued member of the Revenue and Benefits Team and will be greatly missed. Lorna’s contribution to the lives of her colleagues, and the citizens we serve, will be an immeasurable loss.

I will always remember the Padron peppers, filled with cream cheese and walnuts, ready to cook, that you gave to me. They were wonderful and I have never been able to recreate the receipe. Laterly, all the lovely pictures you sent to us - taken by the talented David. I have them all. I will miss that wicked sense of humour too!

I first worked with Lorna in 1996 at Local Government re-organisation when she transferred from Central Regional Council and I transferred from Falkirk District Council. Lorna had been working alongside us at FDC for some time assisting and preparing the transition. I’ll never forget the end of FDC disco/karaoke we had(on the ground floor of the Municipal Buildings) and the chief executive at that time phoned down to tell us to keep the noise down. The party moved up the town after work that day and it’s fair to say a few drinks were consumed, and to another disco/karaoke at the pub I recall as Slik Chicks, not sure what it was called at that time. Great, carefree times compared to what we are living like today. Lorna earned huge respect for the way she has led the department in recent years, in a very forward-thinking and progressive way. She was always open to embracing new ways of working and as Anna rightly says, had a huge passion for the service we provide in assisting and empowering our citizens. David must take comfort in knowing how well respected Lorna is and I hope he continues to find solace in family, friends and their beloved wildlife. I do hope he continues(as he recovers form this huge loss) to send in the Friday Special contributions in her memory.

I remember my first day in revenues after switching over from payroll. Lorna said to me 'we ask customers for everything but their knicker elastic' made me laugh and has stuck with me for over 20 years. Her Friday furry friend e-mails will be sorely missed.
