Darlington was a true gentleman and great professional engineer, expert in his field, always happy to help and always smiling.
He will be remembered by 1000s of young engineers for the positive impact he has made on their lives through his lectures, practicals and mentorship.
Though the finest of academics and colleagues he was above everything a family man.
Here are his own words recently shared on his children's school site which give us a deeper insight into this fine man whose loss to our university community is felt deeply.
"I am very excited to be part of this School's Catholic family. Although I and my family are relatively new in the community, I am deeply rooted in Roman Catholicism. I am happily living the faith with my wife and three daughters. My daughters (Deborah, Grace and Elizabeth) are, respectively, in Year 1, 4 and 5 of our school.
Presently, I teach in Coventry University and I am a Mechanical Engineer. Before now, my teaching experience in Higher Education also included University of Brighton and abroad. I am very passionate in supporting students in their journey of learning and character-moulding.
Thus, I look forward to working with the wonderful and well experienced committee members to drive the development of a Christian academy that will be our pride as a community.
May God bless our church and community! "
