When Delroy first came to the Leeds office I was his mentor so I got to know him quite well. He was a joy to work with and a really lovely person. As Kev remembers the stew, so I remember the ginger drink which Delroy made to accompany it. Unfortunately, he forgot to mention it had to be diluted and someone drank it neat!!! Delroy's death will leave a hole in the lives of a lot of people.
I first met Delroy when Adele and I interviewed him for a role in the Systems Analysis team in Sheffield. I believe we both still remember our first experiences of Delroy’s humour – especially after the interview as we escorted him in the lift back out of the building - he had both of us laughing until we said goodbye. Since he joined our team there have been so many occasions where he has made us laugh and helped keep us positive with his constant cheerful greetings/positive approach to everything. His seemingly never-ending desire to do the best he possibly could in both work and non-work activities that he was involved with was always admired and appreciated. I’m both pleased and proud to have worked with Delroy in recent years and, as his line manager until a year ago, I have admired the way Delroy approached his work and the dedication he showed in trying to achieve what was needed for the business and its clients. He truly made a difference in terms of work activity and the positive impact he had on the ‘culture’ of the team - both of which I’m sure will be missed. Whilst my initial impressions of Delroy were of him being a quiet character; it quickly became apparent to me that he was quietly building strong relationships and bonds with others and that he was respected and typically at least well liked if not loved by others within the team, the wider IT dept, other Capita departments and clients. The number of positive comments left by many different people and numerous mentions of him being a true gentleman highlight how Delroy’s Christian values were constantly displayed as he went about his day-to-day activities at work – something that I always admired, respected, enjoyed experiencing and learning from first hand.
Delroy was always a happy soul in the Leeds office which was a breath of fresh air in the department. I didn't know him particularly well but he always made the time to say hello with a smile on his face.
From first interviewing him he was immediately a very likeable person and just how lovely a guy he was really came out when he started work with us. He fitted straight in to the department and team, was immensely popular and got on with everybody and he made a real effort to keep that connection going when he left to move to the Sheffield department nearer to his home. The one main memory I'll always retain of Delroy was a day we were doing a department social event in the office where every team made some food, Delroy had volunteered to cook something and he brought in this wonderful Jamaican stew that we couldn't get enough of. What we didn't know straight away was that he had got up at 3am that morning in order to make it and was absolutely shattered at work. A wonderful person who will be hugely missed by everyone who was lucky enough to come in to contact with him.
I'll always remember Delroy's Happy New Year Messages, so uplifting and positive, filled with goodwill and love for all. He "adopted" a plant from me once and took pleasure in sending me updates showing me how well it had grown and was thriving. The world has lost a good man.
I worked alongside Delroy very frequently since he joined Capita in Sheffield. He was kind, funny, caring and generous. He believed anything was possible and was always very encouraging. He'd always start his conversation with "My most favourite developer..." when he wanted me to do any work for him which always made me laugh. It was a big shock to hear of his passing, he will truly be missed.
I worked with Delroy at Capita in Sheffield from 2017 to 2021. He was one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I've ever known, always cheerful, often laughing and usually singing while working away at his desk. When my son received his GCSE results in 2020, Delroy (who had never met him) sent a congratulatory video message for him - that was the mark of the man. Oh and I'll never forget his Jamaican Christmas cake!! The world needs more Delroys, he will be sorely missed.
I'll remember Delroy as a kind and supportive team member who helped me, particularly when I first started at Capita. I'm sure his always positive and cheerful demeanour will be missed by those who had the pleasure of working with him.
Delroy, an absolute pleasure to work alongside. I already miss the cheery motivational good morning messages and the occasional rendition of your choir songs in the team meetings, your infectious cheerfulness that touched everyone. RIP my friend.
I met Delroy in the summer of 2017 when he joined our team in Sheffield as a Pensions Systems Analyst. We worked together on the same project for more than two years and always kept in touch after that, even when we moved to remote working. I will always remember him as very kind, polite, friendly and funny. When things on our project got stressful he kept calm and maintained a positive attitude - I was so grateful for his support. We laughed a lot too because when Delroy laughed everyone laughed with him. I have fond memories of the recipes, cooking advice and the food he brought into the office - chicken, his special lasagne, and the Jamaican fruit cake which became legendary in my family. I am grateful to have met and worked with Delroy and will miss him very much, particularly his upbeat daily greeting "Good Day Lady Furbank!"
There will only ever be one Delroy Carter and when I think of him, I think of happiness, positivity, his hugs and of course Jamaican Rum Cake! A real gentleman who made this world a brighter place by just being himself. It was a privilege to have been able to work with him and he will be greatly missed.
Delroy was always a true Gentleman, in every sense of the word, and a real pleasure to work with. He was always appreciative, cheerful, helpful and kind, and he will be really missed. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Sarah.
I will always remember Delroy, he was so positive and vibrant and always eager to please. He was so chivalrous and caring and an absolute joy to work with. A true gentleman who will not be forgotten. I'm privileged to be able to say I got the pleasure of working with him.
I was Delroy's first Team Manager when he joined Capita in Leeds, after myself and Kev Trotter had interviewed him a few months previously. He was a joy to work with and to be around, genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever come across. I will always remember the way his shoulders shook when he laughed, I used to tell a joke of the week in team meetings and when I asked "If two vegetarians get into an argument, is it still called a beef?" he was the only one who found it funny. He was especially supportive and sent me some lovely words when my mum passed away. I wish I had kept in touch with him when he moved to the Sheffield office, and I will miss him.

I will remember Delroy as being kind, smiling and a ray of sunshine. Delroy was a big support to me when I moved into my new role and I don’t think I’d have been able to manage without his help - he was really patient with me and never dismissed my requests for help. He especially kept our team smiling and meetings always had a positive vibe when he was there. From reading the wonderful things people have to say about him, it’s easy to see that Delroy was valued by so many of the people around him - he was truly an amazing person who was always willing to give his time to help others. He will be missed. Goodbye to you, Delroy x
