Not sure who had the better smile, Lisa Shovers or my dad. He loved her so much!
Al with his favorite team colors: Syracuse and the Green Bay Packers. Here on the Pier that goes out to the famous Rod & Reel on Anna Maria
Family fun at Thanksgiving- still remember Big Al draining a 30 foot putt for all the money!
Syracuse boxing team days (he also played for at least one year under Coach Ben Schwartzwalder.)

So many memories of my father- and there will be many memories that others might like to share as well. While I gather my thoughts there are some pivotal events and episodes that I hope others might comment on as well: in no particular order some of them would be- Indian guides, Wisconsin Dells, Green Bay Packer Super Bowls (Kansas City and Oakland), trips to Wauwatosa, WI to visit his mother-in-law (my grandmother Leibrock) where it seemed he was tasked to do NONSTOP chores (lol), Wisconsin Dells, little league football, golf and more golf, YMCA Saturdays of officiating basketball, playing basketball and visits to the steam room, Racine Packaging- where he was the very hands on BOSS with a very fun, creative and colorful bunch of characters - household chores of lawn-mowing and shoveling, I'll share some stories about some of my teenage escapades as a not very diligent summer worker there, Canadian fishing trip, annual spring brakes in Panama City, Florida at the Sandpiper/Beacon Motel, college visits, New York visits, the move to Anna Maria Island and great visits with our children Lily and Oliver to the beaches and haunts of Anna Maria. You are deeply missed. I know you did not like the diminishments you faced late in life but you pressed on. You were such a strong personality in my life and we're all lucky to have had you with us for so many years. I'll have more to say at the Memorial Service on February 2. I invite others to share memories of BIG AL!.
Anyone lucky enough to have met Grandpa Al will likely never forget the experience. He was a force of charisma, warm, twinkly charm, a mischievous sense of humor and a beautiful, wide smile (which he passed down to my dad and aunts!) I have so many memories of Grandpa Al hosting us at Anna Maria Island over the years. He always woke up before us and made us breakfast and endless (endless!) sandwiches to take to the beach. Going out with him there was like being related to a famous person — everyone loved him and was quick to share stories about him. The last time I saw him he was moving slowly and having a harder time with his memory and conversation, but he was still very much himself (for example, telling my mom how she always "classed up the operation.") Now, I see so much of his big heart, humor, and storytelling in my Dad and Aunt Lucy and Laura, to me he lives on through them.
Al was the sweetest father-in-law a girl could hope to have. He called me his "favorite daughter-in-law" and although the competition was slim (I was his only daughter-in-law), it meant the world to me. He loved treating us—to dinners at Il Mulino in New York City, hamburgers at Hurricane Hank's, and his own grilled salmon, a specialty. Al loved feeding people—I'll always remember him packing picnics for us to eat at the beach. This photo is of one of the last times I spent with him, on his porch at Sunny Bower, together with Steve and our daughter Lily. I loved Al like my own Dad and he will always be...my favorite father-in-law. Rest in Peace, Grandpa Al.

It may have been raining all day for my beach wedding, but I couldn't have asked for a better day, or a better dance partner
